Authors note: This wasn't planned, but the inspiration hit and I just had to write it. Very short drabble, I know, but I hope this will make up for the lack of updates on Guard Duty. Takes place during the big Weasley wedding in book 7.
She sat down on the low stone wall near the orchard and took a moment to study her surroundings. It was truly beautiful... The setting sun cast a soft peach glow over everything, the gentle breeze blowing over the the long grass and wild flowers made everything seem peaceful, it breathed new life and hope into everything it touched. Even if it was just for a few hours, the war was something distant, something that couldn't touch them.
"Here you are, I've been looking everywhere for you."
He sat down on the wall next to her and slipped one arm around her waist. Remus. Her Remus, her husband now. It's been almost two months and sometimes she still couldn't believe it was true.
"Are you alright, my love?"
"I'm fine, I just needed some peace and quiet for a few minutes."
He didn't say anything, so she decided to rest her head on his shoulder for a moment. There was something he needed to know, something she needed to tell him, but this wasn't the time or the place for it. Maybe tomorrow...
"You know, we never did have a first dance."
Merlin, he couldn't honestly be suggesting...
"Remus, have you lost your mind? I can barely walk in a straight line without falling over and now you want to dance with me?"
He stood up and gave her arm a little tug, but she didn't budge.
"Come on."
"No! I'm not going anywhere, I'm just going to sit here and wait while you go look for your missing marbles."
A ghost of a smile.
"Will you just trust me? It's going to be fine."
"Fine, fine, it's your toes you're risking."
She allowed him to gently pull her up and lead her to the dance floor.
"That's a risk I'm willing to take."
"You're going to regret this."
He didn't say anything, he simply laced one arm around her back and pressed a kiss to her left hand while she placed her right on his shoulder. He leaned closer to her to whisper in her ear.
"Relax, my love, everything is going to be just fine."
She decided to have some faith in him and let the music guide her.
It wasn't much of a dance, more a sort of gentle swaying from side to side in time with the music. The tune was vaguely familiar, but she couldn't quite place it.
For a moment nothing else mattered. Regardless of what happened tomorrow, how Remus might respond to the news of her pregnancy or how the war turned out, this moment belonged to them.
It was their first dance, and it was perfect.
