Hm…I'm freezing—my bedroom's on the corner of the house—my cat's sleeping on my bed, I'm thirsty and not tired. Mix all those things together, look down, and view their product.
Abnormally
His heart was beating quickly. Abnormally so, in fact. That was the first thing Hermione noticed as she shifted her ear on his shoulder. She'd fallen asleep as they'd sat up talking, her head dropping onto his shoulder. When she'd woken up, her ear was pressed onto his shoulder and she could hear his steady heart beat.
But it was beating faster than normal. For a moment, she wondered if there was something wrong with him. He seemed calm enough, sure, but his heart was racing as though he'd just run a race around the castle.
"Harry," Hermione whispered as she lifted her right hand and placed it above where his heart was. "Your heart…does it always beat this fast?"
He shifted the arm he had wrapped around her and placed his left hand over the one on his chest. Sighing he looked at the dimming fire in front of them. "Only when I'm around you."
Hermione was quiet for a few moments, allowing what he'd said to sink in. After a short while, she looked up at him, her eyes soft and understanding. "Oh."
He kissed her forehead and mumbled, "Yep." As he pulled back, he smiled at her, making her own heart race just a little faster.
So, there you go. Waste of time? Maybe. Worth a review? I'd hope so. Please? I'll beg.
