It was just wrong.
The way everyone glowed at the sight of the two. "A Match Made in Heaven", they say.
Him.
The boy who was never loved as a child. The one hated for his past, for his history. That same boy now stood as a man with his signature idiotic grin on his face. His blonde hair practically shining as bright (maybe even brighter) than the sun.
Holding hands…with her.
Her.
The girl. The young woman who loved that boy since she was a girl. Years of admiration, hoping, yearning. Years of looking with her pale eyes and loving the unloved boy.
And finally, her deepest desire became reality.
The boy saw.
Realized what she had to offer.
Her attention, love and devotion.
It was all he ever needed and he gladly accepted her with open arms.
It made sense. After all, it was only expected. All the years the boy and the girl suffered, unloved. They fit each other well. Gave each other what they needed.
But it was wrong. It just felt wrong.
Because as everyone crowded around this "perfect" couple, a dark-haired man watches from the shadows. He does not join the crowd.
This man didn't—couldn't—wouldn't see what everyone else saw. In his eyes, they weren't a perfect couple.
Her. The lover of his blond-haired best friend.
Yes. It may be true that she loves the boy. It may be true that this boy is the reason for the happiness in her eyes.
But he knows.
He knows.
He knows (and desperately wants to believe) that her happiness still hasn't reached what it could be.
The happiness she could have…if she was with him.
He could give her the world. He could give her his heart…she would be the only one. Something that his best friend could never give.
That boy's heart would never be entirely hers, as his old love still holds a piece of it.
Knowing that, she still stays with the boy.
Despite the pain, the boy still has her whole heart.
And so, the dark-haired man decides.
It wouldn't be fair to her. It was an unrequited love on her part.
So, he must show her. He must make her realize.
Realize that just as each puzzle piece needs a perfect fit, she would need the one to fit her; the one who would give her true happiness.
The boy she is with cannot complete her.
Her counterpart, her true missing piece was the man within the shadows.
He knows this.
And he will try as much as he can to show her this.
And then he will wait.
Wait.
