He Never Really Left
Ginny looked up from her breakfast to see Harry searching the Ravenclaw table once again. His eyes stopped on a certain 6th year witch. Cho Chang flipped her charcoal-black hair as she laughed, surrounded by her usual group of giggling girls. Ginny scoffed into her oatmeal. She would never know what Harry saw in that girl. Her eyes wandered over to Michael on the other side of the Ravenclaw table. He was staring dully around as he chewed a rather large bite of biscuit. All the while, Ginny could feel Harry in the back of her mind. He never really left.
Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too long
No matter what I say or do
I still feel you here 'til the moment I'm gone
She had gotten over her tongue-tied and awkward mega-crush, but she was always aware of his presence. He appeared in her dreams often, and her heart still occasionally skipped a beat when he entered the room. She found herself thinking about him sometimes, even as Michael was holding her hand.
You hold me without touch
You keep me without chains
I never wanted anything so much
Than to drown in your love and not feel your rain
Of course, it was one-sided—she knew that. He had eyes only for Cho. Yet, the hopeless romantic in her persisted in saying that if it was meant to be, it would happen. So, she would bide her time.
Set me free, leave me be
I don't wanna fall another moment into your gravity
Here I am and I stand so tall
I'm just the way I'm supposed to be
But you're on to me and all over me
She would never fully understand the magnetic attraction she felt for Harry. She had tried to get over him for years, but it was futile. He would always have a place in her heart. For now, she was fine. Ginny could survive quite well without him. It was not like her to pine.
"Ginny, pass the syrup, would you?" Harry pulled Ginny out of her contemplative silence.
Ginny gave an expertly casual and unaffected smile as she handed the bowl over to him.
Harry drenched his pancakes in syrup, without a second glance in her direction.
Something always brings me back to you
It never takes too long
