Set during the conversation between Arthur and Gwen in Le Morte d'Arthur, from Gwen's POV. I was watching Arthur/Gwen videos on youtube last night, and so I've been itching to write another Arthur/Gwen ficlet.

As always, please enjoy and leave a review!

I have to go into Arthur's room again, the second time in a week. Hopefully he's better.

Uther walks out of Arthur's room just as I walk in. I shrink back slightly, hoping that he doesn't remember who I am, or at least who's daughter I am.

I glance at Arthur. Oh no, he's still unconsciousness. He can't be!

Wait a minute…

He's turning his head, opening his eyes… he's fine!

I smile. "I knew it. I said you'd be alright." I turn to the table against the wall and busy myself.

Oh gosh. Arthur's talking to me. He never used to talk to me before Ealdor. What's he saying?

"I can remember you talking to me."

Oh no. Please don't let him remember that. He isn't supposed to! "You can?"

"You stroked my forehead…"

If he remembers that, maybe he remembers what I told him. I don't want him to, so I shoot back an explanation. "I was tending to your fever." And that is the truth, after all.

"Never lost faith…"

Arthur sounds dazed. But he remembers what I said. Or at least the gist of it. Why'd I even say all that to him? "I was just talking."

"Tell me again what you said?"

It's a question, not a command. I don't have to. And I'm not going to. "I don't remember." Nice, simple answer. Hopefully he'll stop talking to me now.

"Yes, you do."

He's starting to sound teasing now. Like he always used to talk to me, when I was just a simple servant. When he didn't know who he was. Well, I'm not giving in now like I did then. I'm stronger. "No, I don't." I put more force into my words this time.

"Come on. Something about… the man I am inside…"

He remembers everything. Oh god. I twirl around, glancing at Arthur. Bad mistake. He's grinning, his hand outstretched towards me. I can't deny it to his face. I quickly stare at the floor, refusing to look at him. "No, I never said that." I glance up, and my eyes accidentally meet his, just as he says my name.

"Guinevere…"

My knees suddenly go weak, just like the first time he said my name like that, in Ealdor. I can't stay here any longer with him, or else he'll see the effect he has had. I can almost hear my heart beat faster, and I'm suddenly confused. I don't know why, but I know I need to get away from Arthur. I need to get far away from him, just to clear my head.

"I have to get these washed." Arthur's still grinning; it's unnerving me. "Sire." I add the title for good measure to remind Arthur of my servant status, and leave as quickly as I can without running.

But I can still feel Arthur's gaze on my back as I leave, and for the rest of the day I can think of nothing else, but the way Arthur looked at me as he said my name.
