The wooden dock stood empty in the chilly autumn night. All that could be heard was the gently crashing of the waves as they collided with the wooden logs that had been hastily hammered into the floorboards. The sky was a deep shade of grey blue, not a star in sight. All that surrounded the lonely dock was a couple of seemingly empty caves and jagged rocks that stood tall as the icy water slapped viciously at them from time to time. Apart from that, there was nothing. No humans, no animals, no trees or flowers. The air ringed with dull silence, and not even the smallest of insects past by.
All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a loud wrenching sound that could have been anything from a screech, to a braking train, to an old engine re-awakening, or even to a dying sheep, filled the air. Its deep sound filled the silent night, and echoed at a grand scale as it hit the rocks and caves, one by one. There was a deafening BOOM, and then all was silent once more. It was as if nothing had happened. However a few meters away from the dock, hidden slightly by a wonky shaped rock, was a strange blue box. Such an odd thing it was, standing there all alone, out of place. Its brilliant blue color shone brightly in the dark night, and it alone was bluer than the any sky or ocean in the world.
Then, just as suddenly as the blue box had appeared, there was a tiny creaking noise, and a door placed on one side of the box opened slightly. Despite the fact that the door was left ajar, it was enough to let a bright yellowish light escape out, lighting up every dull rock within a two meter radius of the blue box. A minute passed, the door left untouched. Then, just as it seemed like nothing would ever happen, a hand popped out, holding the door.
Then a foot.
And then some hair.
And then finally, a face.
Oh and it was a smiling face all right, a young man who's grin seemed to stretch from one ear the other. He was still looking back at whatever was inside the blue box. Excitedly he called out in a rushed tone,
"Come on then, wait till you see this place Rosie! I swear, I would go here every day, if only I could. I would if I could, and if I could then I should, I swear! The first time I came here I wasn't prepared you see, didn't bring A SINGLE THING! Not even my good old bathing suit; ALWAYS… bring a bathing suit! You never know when you might take an unexpected plunge into the sea. That reminds me, bring me my bathing suit would you? It's the purple ones with the blue and green polka dots, don't ask. Down the first corridor, up those wonky stairs to the left, past the third door then turn left twice before…you know what? Forget it. I just want you to see-"
His rambling was cut short when he finally managed to take a glance at his surroundings. His boyish grin faltered and then disappeared completely as he took in the sight of the dull and empty dock that stood before him. The cold wind slapped against his face and whipped through his tangled mess of hair.
"…this, city." He uttered quietly to himself.
