Elphaba's eyes fluttered open after what seemed like an eternity of darkness. She slowly pulled her back off the pavement.
'One day they'll be sorry' she mumbled as she repositioned herself. Her face was dripping with blood from two big scratches on her face, one on her forehead and one on the side of her cheek. She wiped her face with her hand and tried to figure out where she was. As Elphaba looked around she took the end of her jacket and dabbed her face.
Before she could stand up, she heard running footsteps she couldn't tell which direction they were headed. Her question was answered almost immediately. They were coming directly for her. Elphaba sat up and her hands started to search the ground in attempt to find her glasses. She was fumbling around for a while until she heard who the footsteps belonged to, Avaric.
'I figured the Artichoke would be gone by now. What do you think boys? Up for another round?' All of Avaric's buddies murmured in agreement. She tried to defend herself but that made them taunt more and before long Elphaba was lying on the ground, all the boys were kicking her and they would take turns punching her. They would call her hurtful names like 'Artichoke' or 'Green Bean.' The last thing she heard before it all went dark was a carriage making its way down the road and Avaric yelling 'Run!'
The noise that was quickly approaching was a carriage. A royal carriage.
'Are you alright?' An unfamiliar voice asked. I don't know what it was but the voice seemed to relax her body, she was comfortable for once in her life. Feelings rushed over her, she had never felt these feelings before. She felt safe, finally, and she closed her eyes to rest. Her body lifted off the ground and into this mysterious mans arms.
