Across the Sea she gazes
Fire's light upon her blazes
Her hair like midnight hazes
Flows out like shadow spray.
Her dark eyes flash with red'ning light
And mourning they survey the fight
The flames arise, clear in the night
From fair Alqualondë.
The Trees have fallen into dark
The stars are nothing but a spark
All Noldor listened to the hark
Of Fëanor that day.
His fiery spirit caught alight
Most of his kind, and of their flight
Came grief and dread, and then his might
Turned fires burning fey.
The Noldor ran from darkling hills
They went, they said, for Silmarils
And fleeing from the Valars' wills
They needed ships that day.
Their kin they slew upon the shore
And blood was spilt upon the floor
Of Swan Haven, the Elven moor,
They sailed so far away.
And now she sits upon the sand
Gazing over sea from land
Looking toward her kinsmen banned
But none can she survey.
The mist is growing over all
The waves rise up, like mighty walls
The ships have gone beyond recall
The Noldor left her here.
Their kin they slew upon the shore
And fled they then from Valinor
And fled they then, to come no more
But sailed so far away.
Across the Sea she gazes
Moonlight upon her glazes
Her hair like midnight hazes
Her kin have left her here.
