Nature Of The Beast

What if Tony had killed Simon like he was suppose to? A/U ending to 9X01

This was it.

This is the moment he had been training himself for since day one.

Lying, keeping secrets from his team.

Acting normal.

Smiling.

Practicing his target aim.

Turns out that six months of dirty work for the new Secretary of the Navy wasn't enough to convince Tony that this was the right thing to do.

He wanted to help people.

Put away bad guys.

Not become one.

Where in all of the chaos had the lines begun to blur?

Traitor or not-Cade was an NCIS Agent.

Tony should have walked away.

Should have turned in his immediate regination.

So why say yes?

Why let Secretary Jarvis win?

Tony wasn't an assassin.

That was Ziva's department.

The SFA was in no way- built for any of this.

He knew it.

Gibbs knew it.

Hell, even Director Vance knew it.

So why did Jarvis choose him over everybody else?

The undercover work Tony did for Shepherd lasted over a year and ended better than similar circumstances

But this wasn't acting.

It was the cold blooded act of taking another human life.

Tony snapped the rifle's barrel back in its place.

The darkness provided cover on the roof top.

His thoughts strayed to Ari.

He could almost hear a clock ticking.

Flash:

Kate's eyes went cold as her head jerked back and blood splattered everywhere.

Some got in his eye.

They now squinted into the scope.

'Was he really no better than her killer?'

Simon Cade stepped out into the light, in clear point of view.

The Italian breathed carefully, despite his rapid heart beat.

A text he sent out to the ginormous agent 40 minutes ago came from EJ's number.

He slipped her phone out of her pocket during the high speed chase.

A gloved finger slowly began to squeeze the trigger.

Hesitation.

Tony frowned sorrowfully.

What would she say?

What would the Great Caitlin Todd say about him now?

About to take a human life.

Not in self defense.

Not behind the badge.

But like every single thing he was ever against.

The target at hand stopped moving.

'Breath...just do it DiNozzo.'

Time froze.

Flash:

"DiNozzo, what are you doing?"

The air was heavy.

"Just doing my job, Boss."

A bullet exploded from the long range barrel.

It made blood splatter from the former agent's forehead.

Tony put down his weapon, "Sorry Kate."

Authors Notes: I know it was short and you're possibly wondering why Tony would do something like this? But it's an AU Character Study. Worst things have happened. I hope you enjoyed.
