Summary: What is the meaning of love? How can we define it? One-shot Introspective Kakyou and Nataku
~*~
"Kakyou-san?"
"Hmm?" I look up.
Nataku is by my side, looking pensive. "What does it mean to love?"
I am about to answer but stop. What exactly was love? Was it an emotion? Was it a thing? So I give him the best answer I could give him. "To love someone is to want to be with them more than anything else. When you aren't with them, you are sad."
He looks puzzled. "That's what Yuuto says."
I snort a little under my breath. Right. But I make my face solemn. "That is what love basically is, Nataku."
"But- how do you know you love with someone?"
"You want to be with them and want to see them happy."
"Does Daddy love me?"
I pause for a minute. The Dark Kamui has a fondness for the bioroid, but to me, it is more like the fondness that he might have for a particularly adorable puppy. "I would say so."
He sits down nearby my bed. "Is it true that when you're a bride you're happy?"
I look at him for a long moment. "Many of us would like to think so."
"Is it because when you're a bride you are with the person you love?"
"That is the case."
He seems to understand slowly. "Can you be the bride of two people?"
I shake my head. "No."
"Then what if you love people?"
I try to be as clear and gentle as I can. "Nataku, you can love people in different ways."
"How is that possible?" He looks puzzled again.
I bite my lip a little and then he asks softly, "Does Daddy love the other Kamui?"
At that I blink. "I guess he would."
"But he hurts the other Kamui so much."
"True."
"It's confusing."
"I know it is." I offer him a faint smile. "But know that your father loves you very much."
He gives me a look, as if he could sense I was lying between my teeth. Then he shrugs. "So, Daddy loves me one way, and he loves the other Kamui in another."
I smile a little wider though I am ready to laugh at the irony of it all. "Precisely."
He looks at me. "Kakyou-san, do you love someone?"
"I-" I stop myself.
"And did you lose the person you loved? Because you seem to be so sad. I would be sad too if I lost Daddy."
I look back at him, slightly amazed. He is quite astute for having the mind of a five year old.
He gets up. "Thank you, Kakyou-san." He smiles a little before leaving.
I lean back in the cushions and wonder who was doing to the defining then, Nataku or me?
~*~
A/N: I know that Nataku is technically an "it," but I decide to mention "it" as a he instead. It makes things so much simpler to do so.
