A/N: This story is based both on the in-universe Scribbulus Writing Implements and the one at The Wizarding World of Harry Potter in Orlando. And I know Luna was introduced after Cedric died, but I just wanted to write a story with them together, because Luna's the best example of a Ravenclaw, and Cedric's the best example of a Hufflepuff.

Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter, the books or the films; they belong to J.K. Rowling, or at least the books do. I also do not own Diagon Alley, either "real" or in Universal Studios Orlando.

Scribbulus Pride

"Say, what kind of a notebook is that you have there, Cedric?"

It was Hermione Granger who asked Cedric Diggory that question. They were in the Great Hall during study hall time, and students from different houses were quietly discussing things with each other.

"It isn't a notebook exactly, Hermione," Cedric replied, showing her the yellow, leather-covered book he had written notes in. Its pages were made of parchment, and embedded in the front cover was the crest of Hufflepuff. "It's a journal. I take notes in it sometimes, but I also use it as a reference for my adventures in Hogwarts School."

"Oh, that's it," said Hermione, "It certainly is pretty looking. Holy cricket! Is that fancy pen you're using a symbol of Hufflepuff too?"

Cedric glanced at his intricately designed, black-and-yellow, metal pen with a little gold badger on its base. "Indeed," he said, "I got them both at Scribbulus Writing Implements in Diagon Alley just before my second year. I was looking for something that I could use as a personal journal and show loyalty to my House with, and I suppose these items cried out to me, 'Cedric Diggory, please buy us, and use us in the best possible Hufflepuff way, or else no one will, not even other Hufflepuffs!'"

Hermione smiled a crooked smile. "You always did have a thing for honor, didn't you, Cedric?" she remarked.

Cedric smiled back. "In this journal, I mainly write down information which could help not only me, but all of Hufflepuff, in our struggle to become a more noticed house among the other three elites, no offense to them, however. My favorite spells are also described in it. Best of all, this kind of journal is made to last longer than most other blank books at Scribbulus."

Hermione nodded. "Sounds great."

Padma Patil looked skeptical. She usually did. "But Cedric," she said, "What's the use of a fancy pen like that? Sure, it looks pretty, but when it runs out of ink, what will it be useful for? That's why I simply stick to quills and ink, like this." She gestured to her black quill and ink bottle.

"Actually, Padma," said Cedric, "the pen won't run out of ink. Not unless it's broken. It's enchanted to have a lifetime's supply of ink."

Padma showed her surprise.

"Oh, I don't know, Padma," said the dreamy voice of Luna Lovegood. "Journals like Cedric's, being without stationary lines, are also an avenue for good art, as well as for imagining new things and drawing or copying them down. Here, I actually have one just like Cedric's journal, only it's blue and has the Ravenclaw crest." She showed off a similar-looking journal with the differences she had just described.

Then she opened the book to an empty page and used colored pencils to sketch a drawing of a soaring eagle and wrote down beneath it, "Wit beyond measure is man's greatest treasure."

Padma blinked. "You'll never cease to amaze me, Loony."

Luna looked cheerful. "I'll take that as a compliment, thanks."

"My only complaint with this journal," she continued, "is that it has a raven on the crest, instead of an eagle. Don't misunderstand me; I like ravens, but the eagle is the true animal of Ravenclaw House."

"Very clever, Luna," said Hermione, "It's a good thing you know what you like."

"Oh, come on!" said an annoying female voice. They all looked up and saw Pansy Parkinson standing nearby.

"Why waste time on a fancy journal or a fancy pen, when you can just be utilitarian in your choice of items purchased from Scribbulus? I mean, the badger and the mistaken raven look fine and dandy on those handsome covers, but evidently, you think greatness comes from kissing a good book on its leather binding and writing personal riff raff on its pages. I just got a disposable notepad with the Slytherin emblem on its front, and a set of two quills and five ink bottles, thank you very much," said Pansy.

They stared at the irritating Slytherin bully like she had lost her mind. "And your point is, Pansy?" Hermione wanted to know.

"Someone who wants to be great finds greatness in herself, and doesn't depend on a child's attractive journal or notebook as a source for the rest of her life," Pansy continued. "I simply write down what I need, no more, no less, and then I file it in my brain right away. Finally, when I don't need it any more, I use a spell to incinerate the notes, so no one can copy my methods."

Padma squinted at her. "No wonder Malfoy likes you so much. You're a girl with no imagination, and no desire to enjoy reading their own thoughts over and over!"

"And for once, I am inclined to agree with my fellow Ravenclaw," said Luna matter-of-factly.

"And I see you have no imagination when it comes to carrying around your notes either, Pansy," said Hermione. Here she showed them all something none of them had previously noticed.

It was a red backpack with a Gryffindor crest patch sewn on it. It looked quite pretty on her back, with its bright red color. Cedric whistled. The others looked impressed, mostly.

"This is one of my purchases from Scribbulus," Hermione said proudly. "It's indispensable to carrying around all my books and supplies. And I also got this." She reached inside and pulled out a custom notebook, again with the colors and symbol of Gryffindor. "It isn't as attractive as Cedric and Luna's books, admittedly, but it's just as useful for storing notes, and that's what I do in class."

"We all know that, Hermy," said Pansy rudely. "My gosh, sometimes you non-Slytherins don't know that to have fun with reading and writing materials is unbecoming of someone on the way to greatness."

"And just where is your lack of imagination getting you 'greatness,' Pansy?" asked Hermione. "It's impressive to have a photographic memory, I admit, but written information in a House-based notebook or journal keeps you in touch with your inner witch or wizard." She then looked a little confused, as if she had meant for that to come out differently.

Pansy took her turn to squint. "What is that supposed to mean?"

"Well, that didn't come out quite the way I intended it to," said Hermione, "But if I have anything to say about it, somebody will."

"She means that having a magic item to show your House pride is better than looking like you're ashamed of what you are," said Luna. "And you truly have little imagination, Pansy, if you think drawing pictures and inventing and innovating ideas is a waste of time. Great Ravenclaw inventors like Perpetua Fancourt, Ignatia Wildsmith, and Laverne de Montmorency would be ashamed of you."

That silenced Pansy for good, and she walked back to the Slytherin table.

"Thank you, Luna," said Hermione, "That was very nice."

Luna smiled. "What are friends for?"

"I agree," said Cedric, "That was good. Now, how about we get back to work, or play, if you prefer, with our Scribbulus products?"
