Roxas hated going through the countryside when returning from Frederick to Erie. He knew the area here well, so unfamiliarity wasn't an issue. It was just the vast empty tracts of farmland that surrounded the area. Axel always teased the blond about his fear of the dark and his dislike of driving at night, and usually the shorter man humored his boyfriend and ignored it. On this particular night, I-25 was having construction, so they pulled onto the frontage road. Axel was already tired and he didn't want any more delays. "I wish your mom wouldn't insult me every fifteen minutes." Roxas whined still continuing on about a conversation from earlier, "You would think that after two years, she'd be over you being gay."

Axel sighed, "I know, babe. I'm sorry." Rubbing Roxas' neck, he drove slowly until finally he pulled over, "Sorry, something is wrong with the car…" Putting it in park, he got out while Roxas remained in his seat.

Hell of a night for this to happen. It was about to snow, and Roxas was already shivering a bit. "Axel," He finally called to the other after a few minutes, "Get back in. It's cold. I'll dial for a tow truck."

The redhead nodded and sat back in his seat, "That'd be for the best. I think something is wrong with the tires and I don't want us having an accident on this road. It'd be an hour before anyone even noticed."

The shorter male agreed, "Worse comes to worse, we can walk home." It wasn't as if there were any gas stations on this road, and the nearest house was a half mile away. Maybe they could get a lift there? Calling for the car service he had saved in his phone, the conversation was short. "The guy says it'll be at least an hour." The blond announced.

"An hour?" Axel's brows knotted, "That's ridiculous! We'll freeze before then...unless we do something to keep ourselves warm." He purred.

Roxas pulled a face, "Sorry. That just does not appeal to me right now."

"Okay." The redhead was a bit disappointed, but he would live, "Why don't I walk to the house over there while you nap a bit, because I know you're tired." If Axel was feeling weary, he knew Roxas who worked twelve hour shifts as a nurse was dead on his feet. "I'll see if we can get a lift. If we can, we'll call off the tow truck and save it for tomorrow."
The blond hummed his approval, "Sounds like a plan, babe." He kissed the redhead's cheek, "Lock the car as you leave, though. Okay?"

Axel nodded, "Be back soon! Hopefully kind strangers can help us out! Demyx can come look at the car tomorrow then to save us a few bucks."

Walking towards the farmhouse, the redhead was glad he had decided to wear a thick coat and a hat today. That had been a wise decision for sure.

On Roxas' end, everything was quiet for almost thirty minutes until he got the shivers from underneath the blanket. Ignoring it, the hairs on the back of his neck stood up, and something in his soul told him that all was not right. Peeking out from underneath the blanket, he looked out the window: nothing was there. Nothing peripherally caught his vision in the front windshield either. It wasn't until he looked at the window behind him that his dread was explained.

There was Axel's severed head pressed against the glass next to another man's smiling face, eyes gleaming with excitement. When he saw Roxas' look of terror, his grin widened.

The blond couldn't even scream when he held up the keys.
