The King Must Die

Ianto walked through the empty base, not noticing any of the details around him. His thoughts were set on one thing; one place. He had found a dark, barren room off the hallway in the archives. He didn't think anyone had been in it for years. It fit his purpose perfectly and he hurried to it, checking behind him for followers. As he went from the relative neatness of the main base, the rooms became gradually more and more chaotic. Usually, the state of the archives mirrored the turmoil in Ianto's head, but today there was only one thought: End it. He reached the cold room and pulled out the vital part of his plan. A nice, shiny, black handgun; the same handgun he had threatened Jack with. Ianto shut the door, throwing the room into total darkness. He settled down in the farthest corner of the room and took the safety off the gun. He put the cold metal to his temple, and without a second thought, Ianto pulled the trigger. The gun made a simple click, but no bullet went spiraling through his skull. He pulled it again, but he just got another click. He threw the useless gun across the floor just as the door was thrown open. Standing in the doorway was one Captain Jack Harkness.

"I removed your bullets." The captain said simply.

Ianto stood up, fully ready to rip Jack's throat out.

"How could you?" he shouted, "it's my life!"

"And you're my teammate," Jack said, holding Ianto's hands away from histhroat, "I won't let you throw your life away."

"What else is there to live for? Everything I loved is gone!"

"There's always something left."

"Why did you follow me?" Ianto asked weakly.

"I knew what you were going to do." Jack stated.

"How?"

"This," Jack replied, holding up a green pendant.

"Ffwcio chi." Ianto whispered.

Showing his mental and physical exhaustion, Ianto collapsed into Jack's arms. The Captain carried the sleeping Welshman up to his office and laid him down on the bed and settled in to help him work through.
