The Dreamland World

I sat on a tall boulder, watching the ripples of the Dreamland Lake lap the grasses by my feet. There was an empty stillness feel about the place. I sighed, looked at my watch closely. It was almost twilight. I was still waiting to catch a glimpse of a pack of unicorns that was on the news earlier that day. I was an orphan so I lived in a cave, my own special cave, where I believed that dreams were caught, labelled and made.

So there I was, safe and sound until I heard the galloping of hooves and a terrible howl.

'Its only coyotes,' I told myself although I was scared stiff as usual. It was tipping it down with rain. The coat that I was wearing was not very practical but it kept me warm, which was a good thing.

I had no parents because they had died before I was born, so I was independent from the age of 8 and I had made the Dreamland Cave, my own special home. The only nearest friend or pet rather that I had was Snowdrop. Snowdrop was a Dapple-grey horse. She was such a beauty and a very gentle creature though the only things she was afraid off (as lots of animals are) were storms and fireworks. This particular day was like the day before. I worked daily at my job, which was to feed the younger animals, before walking to the nearest village to get a pint of milk, some snack bars and a few bits and bobs to keep me going. Then after a particularly long walk, I stopped because I'm sure that there was something that was following me because every time my back was turned I could hear the rustling of leaves and the crunching of twigs in the background. Slowly, I walked onwards, listening to the wind and the creature or whatever it was behind me. Perhaps it was waiting for me outside the cave, or maybe it's waiting for me to come out and then it'll pounce and eat me.

What was waiting outside though?

Following the path down to the lake was a different matter. After I gathered the water I would need for the morning, I ran back to the cave to store in my cool and secret storing place. When I went back to the cave, I could sense that there had been something in there with me. But what it actually was, I couldn't tell because it was such rum light. Most caves have a skylight or something to let light in, but this one didn't. Instead of a skylight, there was Underground River. A map was high lighted in symbols, which showed them the way down to the river that led into the Dreamland Lake. The symbols were engraved upon a slab that lay directly in front of the entrance to the cave. The old slab that had the holograms on it shone brightly in the midst of the darkness. The slab itself described a way down to the river from the actually main part of the cave itself. After I explored the river and its passage, I ran back to where my supplies were, hidden away in a cool area. Packing some into a bag, I quickly looked backwards seeing the entrance to the cave then moved slowly onwards. My feet were echoing throughout the rushing and roaring of the river itself. I slipped off my shoes, socks and waded into the spring. The water felt cold amongst my feet, but even though I had started walking down the bed, I couldn't turn back, for fear of the huge object in the cave.

Slowly moving onwards, I treaded on the sandy shingle beneath the clear water above. Then it became deeper and deeper; it was then that I decided to make a quick plan of action, for the river was becoming more like a rapid every second.
