Just inches away, he was so close. Why did it seem like he was on the other side of the world? How could the length of a pencil seem like a canyon?

Kikumaru Eiji had been there for two years. He had been sitting next to her for two years, yet she had never said more than a few words to him. He was obviously the social type. He would hug that unlovable freshman that was in the tennis club, so why wouldn't he talk to her?

It was true, she was never very social and whenever the teacher asked her to do an errand she was never referred to by name. Her teacher had too much pride to say that he didn't remember what her name was, but she was used to it, most people didn't remember her. It was actually surprising when they did. She was like a brick wall, or a bush. No one really saw her and no one really cared.

When Kikumaru Eiji- just plain Eiji in her mind- first transferred he was the complete opposite of her. He was loud, friendly and craved the spotlight. Maybe that's what first attracted her to him. The way he scrambled about when he was careless, how he would be able to laugh it off a few minutes later, he always seemed so… happy.

She could remember the first time they spoke. Eiji had forgotten to bring a pencil to school and asked her if he could borrow one of hers. Of course she had let him; she wasn't the type to refuse anyone, especially someone so captivating. He took the pencil and smiled at her, it looked like he was going to ask her something, perhaps her name, but the teacher interrupted the moment with his booming voice and class began. Eiji never attempted to ask for her name again.

Eiji had always been careless. He never quite remembered where he put anything and forgetting a pencil was normal for him. That's why she always brought three to school, two for her, in case one of her pencils broke, and one for him. He would look so innocent when he thanked her that it made her heart flutter.

She had been in love with him for two years and he never noticed. She wasn't as outspoken as most fans were. She preferred to just watch him, waiting for him to notice that she was there, loving him. Every day she sat hoping that he would soon look at her and see a princess instead of a pencil girl.

"Sorry to bug you, but I forgot to get a pencil again. Can you lend me one?"

"Sure."

It happened again. Eiji borrowed a pencil from her and then focused his attention on a friend of his sitting near by. They glanced at her a few times, but they didn't say anything. She hoped they were talking about her. Maybe, she had finally been noticed. Eiji looked flustered, it was really cute.

"Hey Eiji, do you know her?"

"Eh, the girl I sit by? Not really, she's the quiet type. I've borrowed pencils from her a few times but I don't really know her very well. I think her name is… Uhhhh… Hmm... You know, I don't remember. I just think of her as Enpitsu-chan."

Enpistu: pencil

(Author's Note: Well that was random… If you hate it then you can blame it on people who borrow pencils. Sorry for any mistakes I made, I only edited it once. Concrit is adored and so on and so forth. Just a random tidbit of information: This is my first published OC so any advice is helpful. If you don't like how the OC doesn't have a name you can call her Betty.)
