Wrote a tiny fluff oneshot because I need a lil bit of happiness right now.
Hiccup thought he knew beautiful.
He'd seen it in the stars at night, the tracing of constellations in the dark. He'd seen it in the orange sky, with the heavy sun sinking lazily toward the horizon. He'd seen it in the lively forest, green and enchanting, life spurring around every corner. He'd seen it in the wildflowers that grew by his house, their delicate petals emitting pure loveliness. He'd seen it in a mother's love for her child and her willingness to protect. He'd seen it in the scales of a dragon, colors and textures that fascinated him even though he'd seen them every day.
He liked to count his blessing before he slept. He knew he was a very fortunate person. He had a loving mother, a loyal companion, and a village that couldn't be more supportive. He lived through many situations he shouldn't have, he defied all odds over and over again. He knew he didn't deserve to be this fortunate.
But there was a moment, that one afternoon, when everything came crashing down on him like a boulder.
Fat clouds drifted slowly above, a gentle breeze swayed the trees, and the sun warmed the village just enough for the occasion. He'd requested those wildflowers to be everywhere. He thought he loved them and their natural beauty. The pleasant scent that drifted through the air lifted everyone's spirits even more than they were.
He added another point to his list of things to be thankful for when he saw Gobber's smile when he swung the heavy fur cape over his shoulders. A toothy grin and a rough pat on the back He walked out of the hut, feeling like a chief. In that cape, he felt powerful and strong.
When the village stood for her, though, everything changed.
Dawned in a simple dress, her golden locks cascading down her back like a waterfall, her cheeks blushing as the rays of the sun fell on her. Her eyes were the ocean, calm at first glance, but wild and unpredictable and wonderfully mysterious. Her skin was like the sand on the on the beach, smooth and light and soothing to the touch. She was all he could focus on, or ever wanted to focus on, forever.
All of his power diminished. It was a wonder such a woman could make him feel this way. His vows were voiced in a shaky voice. He wasn't exceptional at containing his emotions, unlike how she kept an even tone the entire time, though her eyes shined with love and care.
He dropped the ring when he first tried to slide it on her finger. She laughed, the melodic tinkle that made his heart soar and knees go weak. His face burned but he cracked a smile anyway as he picked it up. It was a connecting moment when his craftwork slid perfectly onto her finger, fitting to the shape.
When Gobber had pronounced them husband and wife, she pounced on him and sealed her lips to his. He stumbled a bit, regained his senses, and took her in his arms and leaned into her kiss. The applause and cheers coming from the village were inaudible to him, all he could think about was her lips on his and skin that burned a brilliant flame under her touch.
Hiccup didn't know how he appreciated the things in his life before. He didn't know how he thought he could define beauty, and count the things in nature that were aesthetically pleasing. The flowers, sky, and the sea were of no matter to him anymore.
After opening his eyes, all of the beauty in his world came from a single source. Astrid was his flower, his sunset, his raging sea. She was his bright forest, his motherly love, his caring friendship. She was his goddess, and he worshipped her.
She, with all her perfections and flaws, was the most beautiful thing Hiccup had ever seen.
Cheese Louise! It wasn't that good, but I felt the urge for fluff yannow.
