Gibbs read the note tapped to his door.
What had she done? She couldn't leave him like that!
He took a deep breath. The last few days, weeks even had been hard on her and on him and on all the team.
If she had only talked to him first maybe he could've helped. But she was right, she usually was, he would've asked her to stay and she probably would've. But it's not what was right for her, not anymore. He could see it in the shaky handwriting, she needed to move on. The kind wonderful soul that was Abigail Scuito had been hit with that darkness that he traveled with.
He could feel all the emotion that he had tried to keep bottled up come flooding boiling to the top. The hugs, the kiss', the sign language, the secret smiles, the nights she stayed over, the nights they cried to each other and the nights they laughed together. She had always been ther.
He knew she was there, he always knew when she was.
Gibbs opened the door and there she was, on the opposite side of the road. Even in the dim light he could see her face, see that look in her eyes. Abby needed him to say those words, needed him to say that he loved her. He did of course, but how to tell her. He could sign it, it's what they did, he could pull out his phone and text her, that way she would always know or he could phone her and hear her voice.
He chose the only option that made sense. Rules be damned!
He threw the note on the floor and ran across the road, took her face in his calloused hands and kissed her.
It took a second or two for Abby to realize what was happening and less than a second for her to start kissing him back.
"They broke for air and Abby smiled at him "what took you so long gunny
"Sorry ma'am" he half smiled "guess I needed to be faced with loosing you to know just how much I needed you"
