100 THEME CHALLNGE

ALONE

Originally written for a hundred theme challenge by "WaterAngel-Alyssa," I'm posting the ones I like as one shots and this one happens to be number 6 in the challenge.

Canada

Twas Christmas eve; and Mathew stared out of the window towards the snowy landscape, dotted with streetlights that stretched before him. Large white flakes fluttered and danced in a gentle wind. Some clutched to the trees, whilst others danced in the air a little longer before floating silently to the earth. The whole world felt muffled by the freezing blanket that enshrouded it, noise subsided within its freezing grip for fear of breaking its fragile beauty, as if even breathing might spoil the scene somehow.

Giant flakes played before Mathew's eyes, twirling to the song of the whistling winds outside. They danced together like they had done so all their lives, acting out a performance that could only be achieved by them alone under the spotlight of the moon, which surely shone above the curtain-like clouds. Mathew sighed, such a beautiful sight and yet again, no one to share it with. Everyone he had asked had already made plans; Alfred was busy in England catching up with Arthur. Gilbert was spending this Christmas in Italy with his younger brother Ludwig and some friends they were meeting there. Francis had trouble back at home, so he couldn't make it this year either. Mathew knew he sounded paranoid thinking this, but after the third year of being turned down, he was starting to wonder if everyone was just avoiding him, though, he couldn't for the life of him fathom a reason for why they would do so. The hearth in the room died as a sudden gust of wind raced down the chimney and snuffed out the final embers, leaving a cold chill that reverberated around the room to shake both the curtains and Mathew that still hung by the window.

Tired eyes continued to follow the path of snowflakes as crosswinds built up outside the panes of glass, twisting the snow into confused flurries that argued over which way they should dance next. The flakes warred with each other as the wind picked up, tossing their fragile bodies every which way. Pale light fingers grazed the glass panes that immediately began to greedily gulp down the heat from his fingers. Mathew envied the snowflakes which clung together, were never alone, and always had another to spend their time with. Even when they warred with each other, it was a definite that eventually, the war would stop, and the snow would settle on the floor at peace once more. A forehead pressed itself to the window, almost as if trying to become a part of the snow itself, anything but alone. Mathew tried so hard to communicate with other people, but every time, he was ignored, looked over like an object in a shop that never really stands out, the consumers eyes will sweep over said object and move on. Mathew was getting so tired of hoping to one day be chosen, only to be crushed later. Eyes swam as he looked outside at the snow that slowly re-organised itself as the crosswinds died down and they danced as a single being once more. Its icy blanket muffling his heart wrenchingly quiet sobs.

Mathew wiped his eyes and choked back his sobs, ashamed that his own eyes had finally failed him, he was stronger than this. He was… Mathew turned his back to the window and dragged heavy feet to a cold and lonely bed. He glimpsed at a digital clock that read 00:01… "Merry Christmas," he whispered to himself before sinking into a deep, cold sleep.

Was I little too mean to Canada here? Maybe… eh, well, I wrote this in the early hours of Christmas morning X'D And then edited it a week later to the song – CANDY MAN… yeah… great song choice right? ¬_¬

I'll admit that it has taken me forever to feel like publishing this though, considering its been sat on my computer for around 5 months now X'D
