Author Note: … Well. I found this while cleaning out some boxes in my room. It's at least six years old, old enough that I have no earthly clue why I even wrote it. I'm under the assumption that it's from high school or my first year of college, when I still handwrote all my stories before typing them up.

So. Um. I'm alive and back writing. Yay. Enjoy.

Silence echoed throughout the main room. Bouncing off the metallic walls, making it almost impossible to think.

Chiro… Antarui…

One missing, one dead.

As the hours ticked by, that could easily change to two.

Jinmay sat alone, in Chiro's chair, the only one not upturned. Her knees were pulled up to her chest as she sobbed her heart out. The boy she loved had ran away, after sacrificing himself to save the citizens of the city he loved. She pulled her knees tighter, squeezing herself into a smaller ball, ignoring the feeling of tears staining her clothes.

Nova and Sprx were frantically trying to lock onto Chiro's locator, with no luck so far. Nova paused every few moments, a few stray tears falling down her face as she silently worried for her friends. Sprx kept a worried eye on her, even as they worked to repair the computers in the control room.

In the Medical Bay, Gibson worked on installing a new hand for Otto. The mechanic sat quietly staring off into space, his eyes not registering anything. The scientist worked diligently, his mind focused only on the task at hand as he wouldn't allow his thoughts to wander while he was busy helping his brother.

As if on command, the computer beeped, telling everyone their missing leader had been found. They all gathered in the main room to prepare to save Chiro.

Hours later, Chiro sighed and toppled onto his bed. His muscles ached deeply and his body was marred by little cuts and bruises, but right now he didn't care. Instead he let his mind wander to all that had happened. The team had explained the events of the past few days to him, but still…

Of everything that had happened, he only had fragments of memory. He remembered thinking that he had to save Antauri, but even those thoughts were jumbled. His last clear memory was of the moment he was hit by the Power Primate from Antauri's spirit and the pain that followed. The next thing he knew, he was tied hanging upside down with a powerful headache and an extreme amount of confusion.

A knock at his doorframe drew him from his thoughts. With a groan, he pushed himself to sit up and focus on the figure in the pale hallway light. There stood Jinmay, tear tracks still evident on her face.

"Jinmay, what-"

Jinmay launched forward when he acknowledged her. This was real…

Chiro tightened his arms around her, holding her tight to him, ignoring the pain radiating from every corner of his body. "Shh… It's okay. I'm here." He kept murmuring a comforting mantra for over an hour, long after she stopped sobbing and was only clinging to him.

Finally, they both collapsed back onto his bed, Jinmay clenching his shirt, Chiro holding her close. They both drifted off together.

In the early hours of the morning, the second-in-command slowly opened his leader's door. He hovered into the room to see his protégé and friend curled up on the bed, both sporting peaceful looks across their pale faces. Antauri let a small smile grace his mouth as he pulled the blankets up to cover them both. His conversation with Chiro could wait for a few more hours.
