-------
During their sixth year, Lucius Malfoy began sending for his son every few months. Draco would leave school the next weekend and come back on Monday as if nothing had changed. But everything had.
The first time, Draco walked into the Potions classroom with a livid purple bruise on his left cheekbone. In the center of the bruise was a small cut. Everyone stared at Draco as he took his seat, but Snape regained his composure and continued the lecture before anyone could say anything. Draco glared at anyone who looked at him too long.
The second time, he limped into the room with a split lip, his usual poise nearly ruined by the change in his gait. He still glared at anyone who dared to look his way, but that didn't stop all the stares. Rumors began to circulate about Lucius. Draco was called into Dumbledore's office once, but he still went home again a few months later.
The third time, a black eye marred Draco's otherwise flawless face. Even with his eye nearly swollen shut, his classmates still felt the weight of his glares. One hand clutched at his right side in pain as he made his way across the room to an empty seat. Snape stared at him for several seconds before remembering to continue talking.
The fourth time, Draco didn't seem to have any visible injuries—until he entered the room, and everyone could see he was cradling his left arm against his stomach. He didn't glare anymore, only stared at the floor until he reached his desk. By dinner, it was all over the school; Malfoy had gotten the Dark Mark.
-------
After the first time, Harry reached under the table and rested his hand on Draco's arm as they made their potion. Draco stiffened, but didn't move away, so Harry slowly slid his hand down the other boy's arm and laced their fingers together. They remained like that for the rest of the class. Draco refused to meet Harry's eyes.
After the second time, Harry pulled Draco into an empty classroom, covering him with kisses and sucking gently on his injured lip. Draco hesitated, then opened his mouth and surrendered to the invasion. They ended up spread out across a desk, with Draco whimpering and refusing to open his eyes, even when Harry begged. Harry kissed him once more, and they held hands until they reached the door.
After the third time, Harry's hand found Draco's knee under the table, but Draco whispered haltingly that it hurt even to breathe, so they just let their fingers twine together again. And after class, Harry led Draco to the first empty room he could find and just held him for as long as he could. Eventually, they had to stand up to go to the Great Hall. Their eyes met as Draco turned around, and they kissed and ended up missing supper entirely.
After the fourth time, Harry silently led Draco to an empty tower and laid him down on their cloaks. They didn't speak as Harry slid Draco's clothes off, or as he explored Draco's body with his lips and tongue. Draco only gasped as Harry entered him, and looked straight into his eyes as he came. They clasped hands as they walked down the spiral staircase, and Harry didn't let go until they reached the entrance to the dungeons.
It was the last time they ever touched.
