Tutoring Nanami was probaby a bad idea, Miki thinks. No matter what he does, she doesn't seem to be able to stay focused. He holds his stopwatch in front of her face for a moment, watching the numbers race by.

Click! "Nanami-chan, are you listening?"

She looks up at him, her eyes strangely hazy. "Sorry Miki, what did you say?"

He sighs. "Nanami, you're going to fail this week's test, too, if you keep zoning out. You don't need a tutor, you just need to pay attention." He taps her notebook with his pencil, and she watches it move up and down, as if entranced by it.

"I'm trying to remember something," she says quietly. "I think it might be important."

Miki lays his head in his hand and lets out another long sigh. Nanami's brow is knitted in a deep frown, and she studies the stopwatch in his left hand. He looks at it too, as if he'd forgotten it was there, and presses the button instinctively.

"Don't you feel weird too, Miki? My head's foggy, like I just woke up from a dream or something." As if illustrating her point, she shakes her head vigorously, her blond hair swaying from side to side. Then she gets up from the table and folds over her notebook. "I don't think I can study anymore today," she says, and turns to leave.

He doesn't say it, but Miki thinks she might have a point. Nanami isn't the only one who seems odd these days. In fact, considering her track record, she's a lot less strange than normal. Maybe that's the trouble. She doesn't have that gaggle of girls following her around anymore, and she barely ever talks about her brother. In his opinion, it's a change for the better.

Click! As Miki stops his watch one more time, Nanami jumps up like he's shot off a gun. She whirls around and looks at him with wide eyes.

"I remembered! Miki...what's that stopwatch for?"

The two of them stare at each other for a long time. Nanami looks at Miki expectantly, and he looks back, confused.

"I--" he bites his lip. "I don't know."

Nanami's triumphant smile only confuses him more. As she starts to walk away, she says, "That's what I thought."
