Hermione sat on the Burrow's roof and let her tears fall down. She should have known it from the very beginning that he'd never want her. She knew it, deep down in her heart, but she never wanted to believe in it. Seeing him developing a new relationship with another woman after his first wife's death, hurt Hermione more than she could ever imagine. Her heart had broken into a million pieces.

She was thinking about suicide for a really long time. She had been depressed ever since her parents had been murdered by Death Eaters at the beginning of her holidays before 6th year. Then her relations with Bill had improved.

He was spending his vacation at Burrow with his family. Hermione came to Burrow in the middle of June, after successfully escaping from Death Eaters. The first person who saw her appearing was the oldest of Weasley's children. He was also the first, and the only one to see Hermione cry. After many days of comforting her, he finally saw a shadow of smile on her lips.

Bill never realized that during this summer, Hermione developed a crush on him. She enjoyed every second of each summer evening they used to spend together, reading books or talking on the Burrow's rooftop. The girl was too shy to confess to Bill of what she was feeling. She was convinced that he'd never look at her differently than at his younger brother's friend.

During the school year, Bill and Hermione used to correspond. In one of the letters, Bill told Hermione about his engagement to Fleur. Her life fell apart again and depression came back. She tried to forget about the oldest Weasley by having other crushes, including Bill's youngest brother, but it never worked.

She thought she may be getting a second chance from fate when Fleur died in childbirth a year after the battle of Hogwarts. It was Hermione's turn to help Bill this time. Weasley pretended to be stronger than he truly was, because he had a daughter to take care of. Not asking for Bill's permission, Hermione took little Teddy, who she took care of after his parents died in the Battle of Hogwarts, and spent every day helping the young father. Few weeks later, Bill decided to sell Shell Cottage and all four of them moved to the Burrow.

Granger knew that committing suicide only because of being unintentionally rejected by the man she loved would be irresponsible and simply stupid. She had an adopted son and Victoire was like a daughter to her. But still, she enjoyed life less and less day by day. There were only few things that made her happy, nevertheless her happiness never lasted for too long. In fact, no matter what she did, she was always thinking of death.

She stood up and made a first step. She knew her friends would miss her, even though their friendship became weak after graduating from Hogwarts and defeating Voldemort. They no more had a common goal in life, so each went in their own direction.

She made a second step. She realized that little Teddy and Victoire would never remember her if she'd died that day. They were still too small and even though she was like a mother to both of them right now, it would be just a matter of time when they'd forget about her.

She made a third step. She knew that her death would sadden her beloved, and she always wanted nothing but the best for him. And at that time, he was falling in love with a young, pretty and smart witch and Hermione was completely sure that the woman would be a great partner for Bill and a good mother for Teddy and Victoire. She would leave them in good hands.

She made more and more steps. Finally, she stood on the edge. With hesitation, she finally raised her foot, and then she felt a hand on her shoulder.

Hermione turned her head and saw the most beautiful eyes in the world – Bill's eyes.

Then she knew exactly what decision she should make.
