Petunia and Lily used to make daisy-chain bracelets every afternoon, one summer, when Petunia was seven and Lily was six. They made them on a beautiful, grassy hill where wildflowers were sprinkled about like freckles. The sun at that time of day would create a wonderful yellow glow that lit up the girls' hair.

They would make up stories together. Usually these stories were about princesses, wizards, knights in shining armor, and a happy ending.

They only did this for the one summer. The next one was mostly spent in their backyard. The one after that was spent at their friend's house. Then they vacationed in Ireland for a summer. The next three were spent at the playground. The last of the three was the last summer Petunia and Lily spent together. It was the last year they talked freely and comfortably with each other too.

It was the end of their friendship.

Rose and Lily used to make daisy-chain bracelets every afternoon, one summer, when Rose was seven and Lily was six. They made them in the wild garden at their grandparents house, where their aunt, Audrey, planted daisies. The daisies flourished in the rich soil and came back every year.

The sun at that time of the day would hide behind some trees, casting dramatic shadows on the girls. Together they would create vivid stories. Usually these stories were about princesses who had to overcome a great challenge with no help from magic or a knight in shining armor. The endings to the stories were not always happy, but this was far more entertaining than a story that somehow left the characters perfectly content.

They did this for two summers. The next summer was spent at Rose's house. The one after that was spent at Lily's house. Then they went back to spending their days at their grandparent's house, but instead of occupying the garden they played Quidditch. The next summer was spent again, at Rose's house.

That was the last summer before Rose went off to Hogwarts. They still had summers together but it was harder to relate with each other when they lacked the quality time they had during Rose's magical schooling.

Two years later Lily joined Rose on the Hogwarts Express. Never were they quite as close. But they were always there for each other.
