I handled the small bowl gently. Cradling it in my hands as if it were some sort of fragile, glass god.
It was an autumn afternoon. The kind of afternoon where everything was perfect. The kind of afternoon where nothing could go wrong. The kind of afternoon Heero's cooking skills blossomed.
Yes, Heero was one hell of a cook. He never did it much during the war, so when he did (during autumn), we all though of it as a religious holiday. In fact, it wasn't until after we had started seeing each other that Heero really started cooking.
One of my favorite things he cooked was Blueberry Crunch (1). At least, that's what I called it. Heero doesn't really give a name for all his brilliant concoctions, so he let's me do it.
This particular delicacy is made of blueberries and this crunchy stuff that Heero won't let me see. Blueberries...crunchy stuff...and you wonder why I call it Blueberry Crunch.
Anyway, he bakes the blueberries and crunchy stuff so the stuff is actually...well....crunchy and then when it's done, he puts vanilla ice cream on top and...drool.
So, as I was saying, I was cradling the bowl with the delicious substance. I sat down on the over-stuffed couch I bugged Heero to buy for our apartment, tucked my legs underneath me to get comfortable, and took a small bite of the Blueberry Crunch, savoring the cold of the ice cream and warmth of the blueberries and crunchy stuff.
I swirled the sweet, tangy dessert around my mouth with my tongue and made a small sound of appreciation.
I heard a chuckle behind me and saw my koi standing behind me. I grinned at him.
"What's up, Hee-chan?"
He just sat beside me, a look of amusement on his face. I smiled back at him and he leaned forward and kissed me lightly. Of course, me being who I am doesn't do well with light kisses, so I ran my tongue across his bottom lip and deepened it.
He moaned and I knew what he was thinking. He told me once when he made the Blueberry Crunch and kissed me that he enjoyed the taste of blueberries, vanilla, and me.
I giggled to myself as he moaned again.
When he pulled back and smiled, I leaned toward his ear and whispered, "You AND your cooking are perfection."
He laughed.
