This was written a while ago. Like, almost exactly a year ago. I'm reuploading it because reality caught up to me. Any reviews will be very much appreciated.
Demyx knew that Roxas didn't remember his past. Everyone knew, actually; it had been a huge topic of discussion at first. Roxas's dreams were a less known fact. Axel knew about them, of course. Roxas told Axel everything. The two were always together. Demyx was pretty sure that one of the top six knew about them, too, because they always knew everything that went on. The only reason Demyx knew anything about the dreams was because he'd overheard Roxas and Axel talking once.
Sometimes Demyx thinks he'd be jealous of Axel and Roxas if he was able. But he isn't 'cause he can't and he doesn't dwell on it because doing so wouldn't help him at all. Wistful thinking wasn't something worth spending his energy on.
Though he'd never told anyone, Demyx couldn't really remember his past either. But he knew that, in his case, it didn't mean anything special. Roxas couldn't remember his past because his creation was unique. Roxas was the Keyblade Master's Nobody. Roxas was special.
Demyx knew, on the other hand, that he could remember anything from his past life because he was weak. He had barely been able to hold on to his consciousness when he'd been created—remembering his past life would have been a miracle! When he had been found by the Organization (he couldn't even remember which member he'd been found by), he had been on the verge of fading right back into Nothing and the pain had been unbearable. He didn't know why the Organization had saved him and allowed him to join. He had told them upfront that he was a weakling, had nothing to offer them, yet they still let him join, telling him that even he could be of use in furthering the cause. They gave him a purpose and something to belong to. And Demyx would be forever grateful to them for that.
He expressed his gratitude with loyalty. The Organization had given him so much, it was only right that he do whatever was asked of him. He worked himself to exhaustion on every mission, tolerated the derisive laughter of his fellow members without complaint. No matter what it was, he wouldn't let the Organization down. Even if the price was his existence.
When Demyx received orders from the Superior to fight the Keyblade Master and bring back Roxas, he knew it was a mission he wouldn't survive. The Keyblade Master had already defeated members so much stronger than him; he didn't stand a chance. Demyx knew all these things, knew that the Superior knew all these things. But he also knew that, if it hadn't been for the Organization, he wouldn't exist anyway. So he took his orders with a pleasant smile and a "yes, sir" and portalled away to find the Keyblade Master.
