A/N: Another very, very short one, but I really relaxed while writing it. You could call this the sequel of Stars, because Vaan is finally able to let all feelings of hatred and revenge go. Please enjoy! :Meresta
Summery:For the first time since the war ended, Vaan goes to visit his brother's grave to find closure for once and for all. Slight BalthierxVaan; Oneshot.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: A malexmale pairing, spoilers for the game intro, slight spoilers for the game end.
Disclaimer: I do not own Final Fantasy XII.

In loving memory

"Hey Reks.." Placing a single Galbana lily on his brother's grave, Vaan knelt down and folded his hands. "How's the weather up there?"

A soft breeze caressed his skin, making him shiver slightly. He looked up to the sky to find the sun smiling at him through a thick blanket of clouds.
"I guess you're never cold, huh, being so close to the sun."

Vaan let himself fall back, laying down on the grass surrounding the big, worn down stone. Moss was growing on it and every gust of wind peeled off more dust, weathering it down slowly.
Vaan would have gotten his brother a marble stone, but there simply wasn't enough money. Grey eyes focused on the barely readable inscription on the grave.

.In loving memory of Reks Ratsbane.

"You know, things have been really hectic down here.." He sighed, putting his hands beneath his head, eyes fixed on the sky. "I'm sorry for not visiting you earlier. I, I really wanted to but.."

Silence, he closed his eyes shortly.

"The war is over now." A couple of birds flew over him, chirping a peaceful melody. "My dreams, they're coming true one by one."

He rolled over, so he was on his stomach and grinned at the old stone.
"And guess what; I have my own airship! Can you believe it?" A sparkle originated in his eyes, a soft chuckle followed as he rolled down on his back again.
"Neither can I.."

The clouds above him tranquilly floated by as he tried to recognize shapes in them. Every now and then the sun would peek through to kiss his skin.
"I guess things are ok the way they are."

Vaan closed his eyes again and relaxed into the soft surface, listening to the comforting music nature made. The sun came through again, but a tall figure blocked her light. Knowing who it was, the wheat blond didn't move an inch and parted his lips slightly. The man knelt down beside him and placed a soft kiss on his cheek.

Finally, Vaan opened his eyes and smiled as his lover pulled him on his feet.
"Did you tell him about me?" Balthier asked, returning the smile.
"Nope." Vaan answered, grinning at the brunette's slight indignation. He brushed some dirt off his clothes and grabbed his lover's hand.

"I think he knows."

"Good." Balthier said, squeezing his hand playfully. They returned to the airship, away from the grave. As they walked, Vaan glanced behind him one more time;

'It took me a while, but I'm finally able to place thoughts of you where they belong.'

"Did you get what you came for?" The older man questioned, eyeing his most prized treasure.
Vaan nodded. "Yeah."

'In loving memory.'

Fin.
