Peace

Ember Island was beautiful at this time of year. Katara loved being there. The tropical storms had been mild over the summer, and the house hadn't even needed repairs.

It had become a tradition for the family to spend a couple weeks on the Island every summer ever since Kya was born twelve years ago. She smiled as she watched her three kids racing around on the dark sand of the beach. Fourteen year old Lu Ten, the spitting image of his father but for his dark skin, had his sister Kya ('How do you like that, Mom?´ Katara had thought when she was born. 'I'm naming a Fire Nation princess after you.') slung over his shoulder like a sack of cabbages, and she was laughing, her long black hair contrasting with her pale skin and bright blue eyes. With a shriek and a gasp, the two Firebenders went headfirst into the water, and there was a riot of thrashing and bubbles before they emerged, still laughing, and now soaking wet. Ursa (their surprise baby), ran back and forth as fast as her little two-year-old legs could carry her, shouting at her brother and sister (though precisely what she said, Katara couldn't hear) and bending little splashes of water into the air.

She felt a touch on her shoulder and looked up to see her husband holding a tray of cups full of watermelon juice, and she smiled happily at him as he sat down. Age had not dimmed Zuko's good looks, and had improved his habit of doing spontaneous little thoughtful gestures like this. They sat together under the broad umbrella, watching their children play on the beach. They held hands and sipped juice and did not think about the responsibilities that waited them back home at the Capital. The point of going to the Island was to not think about that stuff. The years since the end of the War hadn't always been easy, but peace was a beautiful, infectious thing, and twenty-two years later, it was well established and thriving.

So Katara and Zuko laughed along with the children, because they were alive, and together, and it was a beautiful day.

A/N: Strictly written because I have feels. I'm working on a longer oneshot right now that should be out early-ish next month, and it's canon ships and it just makes my heart cry because, well… Zutara wasn't canon. So here's a little fluff just to keep me going, and I hope you like it too!

Ages:

Zuko: thirty-eight

Katara: thirty-six

Lu Ten: fourteen

Kya: twelve

Ursa: two

All characters are owned by Bryke, Nick and Viacom. They can even have these OCs. They're not very good.
