It had been three days since the fire had caused everyone to be stuck at the dance studio. Three days since she had talked to Dez, three days since what he said had been stuck in Melanie's head.

Why not?

Dez had been why, she had never thought about it, but now that she did she couldn't think of a reason not to at least go on one date with him. Sure, he was Charlie's friend, but who said her brother even had to know about the one date. If it worked out they would have to tell him, but why worry him over nothing.

Dance class had been canceled for the day, Michelle had to pick up Fannie from the airport and so they would have no teacher. Given that it was her only day off, Melanie had decided to schedule her detention for today and finally get it over with. She was still in trouble for pulling Charlie's ex to the ground by her hair.

Detention was as dull as all the movies portray it to be, excluding the Breakfast Club and maybe 10 Things I Hate About You when Kat bailed Patrick out of detention. Minus those however, it was just as boring as the movies.

At 4:30 the teacher let them go, and Melanie headed down to the student parking lot to wait for her brother to come pick her up.

Fifteen minutes he still hadn't shown up and she had left two angry messages and sent several text messages. Her attention was then caught by a jeep pulling up to the curb. The driver rolled down their window and it was only then that she recognized the car from all the times it had been parked out in front of her house. It was Dez.

"Hey, um Charlie was busy so I offered to pick you up." Dez mumbled, nervous. But why?

"Yeah, I'm sure Charlie was just booked, cause he lives such a thrilling life." She replied, sarcasm dripping from her lips.

"Well he had to work, so just get in."

Not wanting to have to walk all the way home on her one night off from exercise, she complied with his request. For the most part the start of the ride was in complete silence.

"You know, you can't ignore me. I'm at your house a lot." Dez tried to break the tension.

"Well, I can at least try can't I?" She asked, only half joking.
"Look, I know I might not come off as the most smart, but just one date?" Dez asked.

"I will think about it." As soon as the words were out of her mouth she questioned why she had given in.

The remainder of the ride was quiet, and as they pulled up to her house she reached into the back seat to get her back pack. She opened the car door and then turned back to say thanks when she realized how close they were to each other. She looked into Dez's eyes, before she closed her own and leaned forward.

It was a slow and tentative kiss, something she would not expect from the large boy. It was short and over almost too quickly. After they caught each other's eyes one last time. Melanie left the car.

Dez turned the keys to restart the engine when he felt a buzzing. Before driving off he checked his phone and looked at the text he had just received.

Let me just start off by saying Melanie is a character after my own heart. I love her attitude and sarcasm. It's just, I can't even describe how much I love it. Especially when she defended her brother who she claims to hate. Love it, describes my life perfectly. Then after last weeks episode I fell in love with Dez and Melanie falling in love. So it better happen that's all I'm saying and because the lack of stories for them I just had to write one.
