31 October, 1981. Godric's Hollow

Lily took the teabags out of the pot, and poured out two mugs of tea. She walked into the sitting room, where James was chasing Harry round, as he flew around on his miniscule broomstick. He was crashing into all the furniture, so that the room was havoc; the front of the stick was battered and splintered.

She laughed as James eventually performed a summoning charm in order to save the house form the attack of Harry's broomstick. Harry complained loudly when removed from the broomstick, but was still laughing.

"It's time you went to bed," she told him, taking her son from her husband. She took Harry upstairs, trying and failing to calm him down.

Half an hour later, she came downstairs, exhausted.

"He's finally got to sleep," she told James. "It took a while, but we got there eventually."

"You know, Lily," said James, jokingly, "the one good thing about this ruddy Fidelius charm is that there are not trick or treaters."

"That's true," she agreed, thankful to have something to be cheerful about.

They sat there for a few minutes, until they heard a crashing sound at the front door. James peered through the crack in the curtains – someone had blown the front door off. James instantly recognised the intruder – he turned back to Lily, urgently.

"Lily, take Harry and go! It's him! Go! Run! I'll hold him off!"

Lily ran up the stairs, and threw herself into Harry's room. Harry was crying – he'd been woken up by the commotion. Lily swept him up into her arms, just as Voldemort came into the room. Voldemort laughed when he saw her, and raised his wand. He had just opened his mouth when James barged past him, shielding Lily. Voldemort paused, then carried on where he's left off. Lily screamed as James slumped to the floor in a flash of green light, and Voldemort approached her, grinning maliciously. Lily knew what he was planning to do, just by that smile.

"Not Harry, not Harry, please not Harry!" she cried, backing into the wall, sitting Harry down beside her.

"Stand aside, you silly girl… stand aside now…" his voice was merely a hiss, like a snake – it matched his eyes, with their slits for pupils.

"Not Harry, please no, take me, kill me instead – "

Voldemort did just that, Lily falling lifeless to the ground. So, Severus loved her? Well, he'd never trusted that man's judgement, and anyway – what good was a Death Eater who cried after another man's wife?

Still, he mustn't get distracted… the one barrier between him and eternal life sat here, right in front of him, a mere baby…

He cast the curse, triumph an inch away from him-

And then a flash of green light. The side of the house went up in the blast, leaving the baby crying for his parents, who were dead on the floor.

I hope it was good!
