Jack walked down the stairs of his office, his boots thumping very loudly against the gray concrete in the oddly silent Hub. Well, silent except for the whirring of every single machine.
Owen and Tosh had slipped away the pub about two hours ago; Tosh's cheeks a gentle shade of red.
Gwen had loudly announced her departure about half an hour ago, grinning as she spoke to Rhys on her mobile.
Ianto had stayed to clean up the crap they left around the Hub, like candy wrappers and pizza boxes.
Jack headed downstairs, into the archives where Ianto was bound to end up.
Jack wasn't quite sure why Ianto loved the archives so much, but he suspected it had to do with the history. Ianto loved history. It reminded Jack how much he wanted to get the Doctor to take Ianto to show him some big figure in history, like Churchill or someone, just so Jack could see that beautiful smile light up the Welshman's face.
Jack smiled to himself and emerged into the archives.
Jack walked a bit until he walked loudly around a corner and found Ianto sitting in a corner, files clutched in his hands, asleep. Jack grinned and instantaneously changed his pace so his footfalls were silent.
He sat down quietly next to Ianto and glanced at the files in his slack hands. They read Jack Harkness in typewriter font and curling cursive female handwriting.
The smile melted from Jack's face as his eyes locked onto the files as he skimmed the passages.
Jack glanced back at Ianto when he realized the Welshman was staring at him.
"Hey," Ianto said.
"You can ask," Jack replied, taking the files gently from Ianto's arms.
"Ask what?"
"About my past." Jack stood and locked the files away. "You may be one of the only human beings that I could possibly tell anything to."
Ianto felt a light shade of red wash onto his cheeks, and he desperately tried to rid himself of it.
"Is that so?"
"Yeah," Jack said, sitting back down next to Ianto. "Fire away."
Ianto swallowed and snuggled up against Jack, closing his eyes and sighing. "You sure?"
"Absolutely,"
Ianto and Jack sat for a long time, Ianto firing questions carefully at Jack. Surprisingly, Jack answered everything in that honest way Ianto liked best.
Finally, after Ianto had asked every question he could think of, he leaned forward and pressed his lips to Jack, wrapping his arms around him.
"Thank you," Ianto said, curling up so his head rested on Jack's shoulder.
"You're welcome," Jack responded as Ianto fell into sleep. Jack pressed his lips to Ianto's forehead.
"Someone I can tell everything to."
