Chapter 1

So much has happened in the last few months that I was starting to feel it hit me, once dinner was done I decided to excuse myself and go up to my room and try to clear my head. I glanced over at the clock net to my bed and it read that it was 7:30 p.m. I'm glad that I had finished my homework early because all I really wanted to do was just try and get some rest. I felt like I haven't slept in days, and my mind wouldn't quiet down that it felt like it was the energizer bunny, just going and going and going. My room was pitch black so I plopped down on my bed and rolled over onto my back and stared at the ceiling, it had started to rain during dinner and the rain on my window was making patterns. I found that my eyelids were getting droopy and I eventually dozed off.

I awoke to sound of Whitney sounding irritated with my mother, which basically happened every morning since she returned from her rehab stay in the hospital.

"Yes mother I already ate just before you came downstairs. And I am going to the bookstore now." She slightly rolled her eyes and went to the hook by the front door to grab my mothers car keys.

"How late are you going to stay out today, Whitney ?" my mother seemed to look a little hurt by the way Whitney always wanted to leave and be on her own.

"I don't know mom, not too late." she kissed my mother on her cheek and headed out the front door.

I had been standing by the kitchen sink with a glass of water in my hands staring at my mother who also looked exhausted. I went over and placed my hand on her shoulder and she let out a bit of a sigh and turned around and hugged me.

"How are you doing honey ?"she asked with what looked like a forced smile to let me know that she was ok.

"I'm ok mom, how are you doing ?"

"Oh honey I'm doing ok, just worried about your sister is all."

"I know me too. I will see you after school." I leaned forward and kissed her on her forehead and grabbed my bag and went to my car.

I got to school ten minutes early so I stayed in my car so I wouldn't have to talk to anyone especially Sophie. After everything that had happened she still hated me and would not let me explain my side of the story (or I should say the truth as to what really happened that night.) Sophie had also decided to turn Emily against me even though she was my friend first. My eyes darted across the campus and landed on a tall boy sitting by himself on the wall with his I-pod in his hands and his bobbing slightly. His name was Owen, every time I saw him he was always by himself listening to that thing. There were just as many rumors about him as there were about me going around the school. But unlike me they didn't seem to bother him. I hadn't realized how long I had been staring at him until he looked up straight at me, I widened my eyes a little and blushed and my eyes darted down to my hands. I glanced at the clock and sighed when I knew I had to get out and start heading towards first period. I grabbed my bag and pushed my door open and started walking, before I knew it Sophie was walking towards me and when she passed she made it a point to say what she always says to me when she sees me.

"Slut." she spat loud enough that the people around us heard and started laughing. I pretended like I didn't hear her and kept on walking forward with my head down a little bit, but in truth it did bother me, it bothered me a lot that she could be so hurtful.
