Two figures sat beside a dwindling fire, both staring into it's rapidly cooling heart. They were similar, the two of them. But they were also very different from the other: Both were tall and strong blondes, with troubles and scars. Both had lost their partners, and their innocence. But that was where the similarities ended. One was a man, the other a woman. She had sorrowful lilac eyes, while he had angry sapphire. Her partner ran, his died... He was Jaune, and she was Yang.
The fire, now embers, smoldered in the dirt.
Sapphire and lilac met as the fire slowly died. They peered deeply into each other.
"Should we sleep?" A simple question from Jaune.
"Soon." An equally simple answer from Yang.
The embers breathed their last and became ash. They stood, and her metal fingers intertwined with his flesh counterparts.
Yang spoke. "If there was one good thing to come from The Fall, it was us. We're broken, but we have each other to lean on." A statement of fact, supplemented by truth and emotion.
A small smile tugged at the corners of Jaune's mouth. He rarely smiled after Beacon.
"And we'll be together, even in the worst of times." Came his own statement of fact.
Yang nodded, and moved closer to her knight. Jaune brought her into a hug; his arms around her shoulders, her arms around his chest. The mutual embrace was short-lived, but meaningful.
"Let's go to bed." Jaune suggested, moving to unpack the sleeping bag they shared.
"Good idea." Yang agreed.
Once the sleeping bag was unrolled and opened the two dressed down. Jaune removed his armor and shoes, setting them off to the side. Yang did the same with her combat boots and removed her prosthetic, gasping at the slight pain of the artificial nerves disconnecting.
Jaune put his hands on her shoulders. "Are you okay?" Another simple question, one repeated every time she took it off.
"Yeah, I'm alright." She assured him, dissuading his worry.
Satisfied, Jaune smiled softly and laid down on their 'bed' for the night. Yang did the same, snuggling into his chest. He wrapped one arm around her waist, and cupped her cheek with the other. She looked into his gentle eyes, all traces of the earlier hardness were gone. They just stayed like that, enraptured by each other, for several minutes.
"You have the most beautiful eyes I've ever seen." Jaune told her, still looking into said eyes.
Yang smiled. "Your's aren't too shabby either." She returned.
Jaune chuckled and pulled her a little closer. Yang smiled again and the two shared a kiss. There was a quiet moment, both blondes just enjoying the presence of the other. As they drifted off to sleep in each other's arms, the usual nightmares of red swords and black arrows didn't come.
Post-Chapter Author's Note: Hey everyone. It's certainly been awhile. I'm terribly sorry, but I had to sort out my life. It wasn't fun. But there is one good thing; I've improved as a writer. So hopefully my future work will be less awkward.
Announcement 1: I do plan to keep making these oneshots, but they'll only come when I've been hit by a bout of Writers Block.
Announcement 2: The next chapter of The Dragon and The Dork Knight will be out within the next three to four weeks.
Sorry everybody.
