Disclaimer: Not mine

Notes: Me? Get so upset at fan brats who kill off Danny just so they can show how smart they are ('Danny Delgaod, Z Delgado-- OF COURSE IT MUST BE FATE!!!!') when it copmes to PR lore I write a fan fic to show why Danny would make sure his daughter wouldn't wind up on the streets, even if he died? NEVER

Timeline: Post season for Wild Force, pre series for SPD

It had taken a lot of coaxing and convincing (and promising that they'd go to the music store tomorrow), but Max had finally gotten Elizabeth to bed. And even though Max was really looking forward to some sleep himself, he needed to check on Elizabeth one least time. Danny- Danny would've gotten upset if he didn't.

Max tripped a step as he headed to Elizabeth's room (stupid obnoxiously yellow shirts that she just left on the floor). It still hurt. It still hurt worse than anything in the world. Thinking about Danny in the past tense, knowing every time he said 'Danny cared about you a lot, Elizabeth-- I mean, Z' or 'Danny really liked flowers, so who don't we get some to brighten up the room' that his best friend (no, more than his best friend, not that it mattered now) was gone, and was so Kendall, who had cared for Danny just as much as he had. He was really gone.

And Elizabeth was all that Max had left of Danny.

Max sat down next to Elizabeth's bed and stroked her hair. In his e-mails and all too rare visits, Danny had always gushed about how Elizabeth looked just like her mother, but to honest, when Max looked at her, he saw only Danny. The expressive dark eyes, the reluctant but brilliant smile...

He stood up, walked over to the shirt that'd nearly killed him, and tossed it in the hamper. He'd teased Danny a little when he asked him to be Elizabeth's godfather ('Most people wait until they have kids to ask that, Danny!'), but he'd been so earnest about it there way could've possibly refused even if he had wanted to.

And he would never give up on his promise to Danny.

Max glanced at Elizabeth and smiled before heading to his own room. She had school first thing in the morning, then he had to scramble to get to work on time. It was going to be a busy day, but at least they'd have each other to help them get through it.
