Half my life

They were lying in bed staring at each other; her hair was loose on the pillow as he gently rubbed through it. Her hands were cuddled up between their faces, her left thumb gently stroking his moving arm.
It had been about ten minutes since they left his bathroom and decided to rest a little in the master bedroom. None of them was talking, they were just looking into each other's eyes and gently caressing each other, very slowly…the tiredness after that long day made everything look dreamy and calm.

"This feels so unreal" House finally whispered, his breath bouncing against Cuddy's face.

"What does?" Cuddy knew the answer, but she just wanted to hear that voice she had heard so little during the last year.

"Us. Now…" he moved a little and placed his hand over her head, he swallowed hard as if this simple, yet overwhelming, emotion was making his throat dry. "24 hours ago I was used to you being with Lucas, and me being alone" he lowered his head a little, but her eyes were like a magnet, and his were made of iron.
She started to gently touch his short beard, playing with it as House went on "24 hours ago I thought you didn't care that much about me, 24 hours ago I would have felt outrageously happy even if you simply talked to me…"
he seemed to be lost in a silly thought for a moment "you know, like a teenage boy who has a crush on that unreachable and beautiful girl with a perfect boyfriend…" he laughed a little as he kept on caressing her.

Cuddy smiled at his comparison and joked with him "you have a crush on me?" she said, and his fading laughter was recharged as he answered through his widening lips: "yeah, a little one…" They stared at each other even more intensely, and stopped moving their hands as their talk became more serious when he spoke "I mean…it's only been-"and she finished his sentence "20 years".

In that moment they realized how stupid they had been: wasting the best years of their lives living apart, dancing around each other for decades, teasing each other, but never daring to express their feelings.
They slowly moved closer to each other, their eyes only leaving one other's to watch the lips of their new lover.
This time their kiss was almost violent as their lips crushed together and he moved his hand behind her head. All of their memories, fears, fights, regrets, desires, hopes, jokes, cries and dreams collided in a kiss. It was like this was the one thing missing to their lives to make them complete.

It wasn't a long kiss but its intensity made it feel so. They regained their breath as their eyes locked once more. Then silence filled the room again, they were looking at each other as if they had never seen anything more beautiful; surprised like babies by the certainty that the person in front of them really was, and always had been, the one.

"I've spent half my life wanting you, Lisa Cuddy" House said breathing out, like on the verge of a happy exasperation…his voice was louder now.
"I've spent half my life trying to get you, Gregory House" she said, mesmerized by the bright color of his blue eyes in semidarkness.
"I guess we're even, then" House replied, back to whispering, smiling at her
"We are…" she smiled back "I guess we're good…" she said as she moved her head closer to his chest
"Yeah…" he was sure of his answer as he pulled her closer and whispered "definitely" kissing her head.

Please, tell me what you think, I really would like to know your impressions on this one as it is my first story in English….

Take care
