The Beautiful Song

Sixth Year

Lily and Marlene are walking down the hallway to the Charms classroom. "N.E.W.T's are SO hard." Marlene says. "They wouldn't be that hard if you studied." Lily replies." "Ha! Like that's ever gonna happen." "Oh, come on! Studying isn't that bad." Lily says.

"Speak for yourself." All of the sudden, they hear the light strumming of a guitar." "What's that?" Lily asks. "I don't know. Let's follow the sound." Marlene says. She sprints down the hallway towards the noise.

Lily shakes her head, Marlene was always adventurous. Lily quickly followed Marlene's tracks.

A few seconds later, Lily reaches the end of the hallway to find Marlene standing before James Potter and Sirius Black.

"What are you doing?" Lily hisses into Marlene's ear. Marlene shakes her head and gestures toward the two boys.

James catches Lily's eye and then sends a quick glance to Sirius signaling to start the guitar.

"Flowers will come and go," James starts to sing, "one will bloom and show, the next it will fade, and that's how most love is made." Lily looks up at James with a bewildered expression.

He is a beautiful singer, she thought. "But my love for you," he continues," sticks together forever like glue, and Lily, I will never stop loving you."

Lily feels the heat rise to her cheeks. He loves me, she thinks? No, this must be another joke to get with me.

With a quick shake of her head, Lily banishes those thoughts from her mind. And with another quick glance at James, Lily grabs Marlene's hand and continues to the Charm's classroom.

She is still blushing and she knows it. "It was a beautiful song." "Speak for yourself." Lily snaps back.

But, deep down inside, she knew that it indeed was a beautiful song.

7th Year

Lily is lying down on a couch in the Gryffindor common room with her head in James' lap. She's fiddling with her fingers until James asks, "Lily-love, I'm tired. Can't we go up to the dormitories?"

Lily looks up at James with her puppy dog eyes that he can't resist. "Can't we sleep here tonight?" She asks. James sighs, but then nods.

Lily closes her eyes and thinks to herself that she'd like to stay like this forever. With Voldemort on the loose, they had too much to think about.

"Sing to me. You have a beautiful voice." Lily requests. James chuckles, "Of course."

"Flowers will come and go, one will bloom and show, the next day it will fade, and that's how most love is made, but my love for you, sticks together forever like glue, and Lily, I will never stop loving you."

Lily's eyes flutter close. She falls asleep as James sings the beautiful song that brought out Lily's love for James.

October 31st, 1981

"Lily! Take Harry and go! I'll hold him off!" James cried out. Tears streamed down Lily's face as she gave a final kiss to her beloved. She ran up the stairs to Harry's nursery.

"Flowers will come and go," she sang to Harry, "one will bloom and show, the next day it will fade, and that's how most love is made, but my love for you, sticks together like glue-"

Lily hears James' body drop to the ground. More tears stream down her face as she continues to sing to herself, rather than Harry, "And James, I will never stop loving you." As Lily dies, that song is the thing she thinks about.
