A/N: I wrote this like right after Shooting Star and only just decided to post it so I know I'm a little late. And no, I don't know why I did it. I'm sorry for feels. :c
Warning: mentions of major character deaths; please don't read this if that upsets you! I own nothing, so I don't even know why I put these disclaimers. Title from "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry, because it makes me cry. Just like writing this fic did.
Kurt's on his lunch break when he gets the call. He swallows his mouthful of mocha, fishes his phone out of his pocket and smiles when he sees the caller ID. "Blaine!"
"Kurt," is his reply, and something about the tone of his voice makes Kurt's smile fade completely. "Kurt, I—"
"What's wrong?" Kurt asks, and he's sure he can hear faint sobbing on the other line. "Are you alright?"
"Not really," Blaine says, almost a whisper. Kurt frowns "I just—I needed to call you and tell you how much I love you."
"I—I know you do," Kurt says, and his heart begins to pound. "I love you too. Who's crying? What's going on?"
"Thank you for everything," Blaine goes on, voice wobbling. "You—I wouldn't be here without you now a—and you're the best thing that ever happened to me. I'm sorry I didn't tell you sooner but—shit, Kitty, be quiet! Get down, just get down!"
"Blaine, what's going on?"
Blaine takes a shaky breath that sounds staticky through the phone line. "We're in a bit of trouble but—but it's okay. We're gonna be okay..." His voice falters at the end of his sentence and Kurt feel the tears well in his eyes, pool and fall wetly down his cheeks.
"Tell me what's wrong, Blaine," he says, tries to keep his voice calm as he grips the phone harder. Then he hears it—two loud bangs that sound like train detonators in the distance.
Detonators, or...
"Kurt, I love you. I love you so much and I love Rachel and Santana and thank you so much for everything, everything—"
"I love you too," Kurt says, a sob ripping its way out of his throat.
A girl's scream, and then the line goes dead.
"Kurt!" Rachel beams as she skips over to the table. But her disposition evaporates as soon as she sees the tears on Kurt's face. "What's wrong?"
"Blaine's..." he starts, but can't finish his sentence.
"In other news, a high school shooting in Ohio has left eight students and three faculty members dead. The attack was made on an after-school glee club this afternoon, drawing on for three hours until the shooter, who was discovered to be a former student at the school, cornered his last victim and shot him dead before turning the gun on himself. There were no survivors."
