For the longest time, I hadn't written fanfiction. It almost feels surreal, writing this now, but I shall. This will be based on Toontown Rewritten, rather than the old one. Because why not? It would take this story into a new direction, which is great for remixes.
Please enjoy! And don't worry about the number language system, ha-ha.
-I am finished with you-
The warm summer breeze blew through tall oak trees, causing their leaves to fall on the rolling grass. A leaf fell on a sleeping toon's face, causing him to wake up. He blinked, swatting the green clutter away, looking around. Where was he? Who was he? What was he doing before he fell asleep? The answer seemed to be in the corner of his eye, waiting to be released…
"Aster, help me!"
A shout pierced the silence of the summer day, but it wasn't external. No, he heard it in the back of his mind. A girl, crying out for help. To him, he was sure. His name was Aster. He was a duck toon. A mature toon, and that's all that he could remember. "Maybe I can force more flashbacks…." On the horizon was a small town, very familiar in looks. It appeared they were having an event.
Suddenly, Aster knew what he should do. He should go to the town, and see what's going on. Maybe it would all be in vain, but it's all he had. He ran down the hill, gravity carrying his legs even faster, rushing straight to the entrance. Toons of all sizes, shapes, and colors greeted him as he passed by, some even joining in his frenzy. They didn't know, did they? Did they know?
Eventually, he made it to Toontown Central, where they were hosting an election between a fellow duck named Slappy and a blue duck named Flippy.
"My name is Flippy, mayor of Toontown!"
He knew this dog. He knew this dog, yet when the dog glanced at him, he didn't remember. In fact, no one seemed to remember anything about the dog being mayor. He sighed, looking at the crowd. So many unfamiliar faces, all but one…a cat toon. Tall and slender, with brown hair and bright blue eyes. He knew those eyes too! She glanced at him, just like the dog-
"Aster, you're going to be late for the last day of Cog School!"
Just like that, another flashback. The same voice as earlier…was she that same toon? He needed to know. He tried to make it to the crowd to reach her, but it was far too thick. Just as she had appeared, she disappeared. He sighed, frustrated with his inability to move through the crowd. Another toon took the stage to begin talking; the winner was to be decided. The numbers on the two boards moved rapidly, counting all the votes until-
"You toons are so silly…."
A smooth, robotic voice. A sentence meant to mock an action, spoken with such care; another flashback? At numbers, even? He shook his head. Now was not the time for such silliness. He should be caring about the winner, just like the rest of the toons. The numbers ended, and Slappy happily won, by the look on his face. Dark eyes shining brightly for a future ahead-
"I want to forget it all, Aster. It hurts too much to let you go."
Aster shook his head harder than before, provoking some worry. He brushed it off quickly. "God, I have to stop doing that." A loud round of applause roared from the crowd, and he had no choice but to join it. He had to look less awkward. He smiled, along with the rest of them, as Slappy jumped off the stage to wave. Things looked so simple, yet he had a feeling it wasn't to be so.
As if he had predicted the future, a cog – telemarketer- flew right in front of the new major. He claimed to like his lingo, but he needed "positive reinforcement". There, in front of everyone, Slappy was kidnapped. Flippy, a pie in his hand, and a fierce look on his face, challenged the telemarketer, as if he actually knew what he was doing.
"209135 2015 495, 20151514." The old dog's confidence seemed to waver at the unknown language, yet his grew.
"141520 1915 611920, Cog." The Telemarketer gave him a glare as Flippy panicked in confusion, as he stole a pie from another toon to throw it straight into the cog's face. It spluttered until it exploded. This was fighting cogs, this was Toontown, and this is what he was taught to do. He began instructing other toons as more flew down, gearing for a fight. The crowd rushed forward, throwing Flippy's pie supply. In the flurry, he ran, and in a spilt second, the sky meet the ocean. A Telemarketer with flaming hair and ocean eyes. He looked at Aster with a face of confusion, like he couldn't believe what he was seeing.
"11920518!" He called his name but the crowd swallowed him. The ocean couldn't drown and the sky couldn't fly.
-Scene Change-
A damp darkness greeted Aster as Flippy walked around the tunnel of huddled toons with a torch. The dog looked much older now, and tired. Tired of it all, tired of fighting. Did he finally remember what happened? Before this slate was drawn?
"I didn't think you would remember Aster, but seeing you so eager to return to the fight…"
"I don't remember completely."
"You remember enough, it seems. Even that darned language."
He continued walking forward, deeper into the strange tunnel, taking his light with him. He laid back on the earth. Where was he now? Beaten and bruised toons lined the walls, sleeping and exhausted. A few such as him were awake, only barely, solemnly looked at each other. A few looked at him with tired pride and joy, as if they had met their savior. He wasn't their savior. He was just one of the few who remembered. That was it.
A quirk looking horse filled his worldview and he shrugged, not know what else to do. She shrugged back with a sly grin; she knew more than what she was about to say, and with a brit-scot accent, "You really showed up those Cogs! But then you fainted and a Cog tried to get you. Couldn't kill him, you see? But we couldn't let him get you!"
"You….didn't hurt him, did you?"
She gave a silly frown. "I just told we couldn't kill him. So no. He almost got you but then the other Cogs pulled him away into the swarm! They eventually overtook us. Siiiiiigh."
"….Is that why we're down here?"
She nods.
