Chapter 1-

The room was dark as Fang laid the note down neatly and turned away. He couldn't bare to look at the piece of paper that would separate himself permanently from his family. From the girl he loved. A soft breeze ruffled his shaggy dark hair as he glided to the open window and looked down. "Well... This is it then." He murmured to the wind, letting his voice die on the warm air.

Unfurling his wings, he lept onto the small sill and just breathed. Jet black feathers extended on both sides of his body as to block away the view of the room behind. If he turned his head he could never leave, he knew that, but it hurt to just leave it behind. Not the room, but what it symbolized. Never looking back, only facing the future and trying to suppress who he had been. The prospect of what he faced made him weak at the knees and stomach knot. Though the most painful of his insides was his heart. It thumped a million miles an hour like it had when Max had brought him back.

Fang, don't leave. I love you. Fang squeezed his eyes shut tight and gripped his head, pulled slightly at the long locks of onyx hair. God, Max, get out of my head! He screamed in his mind, but it didn't help. There would always be a little piece of Maximum inside him, no matter how much he tried to forget about them and how happy she made him. "I-I'm sorry Max." The words choked on Max's name as salty tears slid down his cheeks and onto his ripped black T. The fancy outfit Dr. M had rented for him was nicely folded in one of the drawers where the others could find it later.

With his final words, Fang grit his teeth and lept from the ledge into the dying sunlight. Even from here he could just make out the music from Total's wedding. Damn it, he would miss that little rat of a mutt! It was funny how the things he couldn't stand on a regular basis now seemed so precious to him.

For a moment he just fell. Weightless and free he plummeted towards the earth until wind caught under his silky midnight wings and propelled him upwards towards the darkening sky. Salty tears still ran down his face but they dried in the blast of sudden air as they leaked from his eyes.

"I love you Max, but we can't be together." And he was gone.
