Luna lied on her back, arms and legs splayed out to the sides. "Harry, have you seen snowflakes up close before?"
"Well, no, not personally. I mean, I know what they look like." He gave her a confused look, but she didn't catch it with eyes shut and a mouth wide open that welcomed snowflakes drifting down from the soft winter sky.
She sat up suddenly, snow clinging to her already white hair. "Isn't it peculiar that they're all unique?"
"Yes, but I suppose-"
"It's the Pagoni. Father's always told me that they shape the clouds, but they most likely have something to do with the snowflakes. "
Harry blinked. "I'm sorry, the Pa-"
"Yes, yes the Pagoni." She flopped back into the snow, and with a sigh she fogged up Harry's glasses as he leaned above her. "They're small, dwarvish creatures, they can fly. They're invisible to the human eye, except for after a blue moon that falls on the winter solstice, which only occurs once every 450 years."
"I see." Harry cast a weary eye at the sky above. "Well if I ever catch a glance at one, I'll let you know."
"Well that would be quite a trick, seeing as you also have to be riding a broomstick at least 2,000 metres into the atmosphere. Don't worry though, I'm close to developing a monocle that should allow you to see them under a half moon." Her voice wafted off into the chilly air, leaving with it any doubt that Luna might have had.
"I don't know how you learn about all these fantastic beings, but I'm glad that you're able to give me some insight." Harry gave her a light peck on the nose. "Happy Christmas, Luna."
"Yes, Harry. It is."
