The Poison in My Tea
"Your daughter is clearly poisoning me."
That got Dr. Briefs' attention immediately. He saw the houseguest turned somewhat son-in-law leaning across the entrance door of the lab. The sad thing was, he wouldn't really put it past his daughter from doing that to him. They both had an odd relationship going on that seemed to thrive on a mutual need to constantly one-up each other with some friendship and understanding on the side. But despite this, they both seem to be raising Trunks to be pretty well adjusted. Far be it from him to judge, but still, sometimes it worried him.
"What makes you think so, Son?"
The odd thing was, he had taken to calling the ex- mass murdering alien'son' when he came back and ended up staying. And the oddest thing was, he didn't really seem to mind.
"She … my heart beats faster when she's around, I …get really tongue tied and speechless and somehow there is some need for me to impress her."
Doctor Briefs blinked before turning his head away from Vegeta and tried his best to mask his muffled laughter into a cough.
"I knew you'd be in on it somehow," Vegeta concluded, his voice turning as cold as steel. He started briskly walking away, but Doctor Briefs ran and tried to stop him. He was quickly reminded that the father of his grandson is not of this earth. He had to stop and catch his breath but Vegeta had stopped and crouched beside him.
"If this is your best, that's pathetic old man," he sneered.
"She didn't poison you, m'boy."
He didn't think Vegeta could actually look that surprised. He continued, "You're in love to my daughter."
Vegeta scoffed beside him, "Ha!"
"I'm serious."
"Tell me something I don't know old man. Of course I'm attracted with your daughter, even you could see that."
"But love and attraction are two different things, Vegeta."
"Really? I don't believe you earthlings, there's nothing more to that woman and I than physical attraction."
Dr. Briefs decided to carefully frame his next statements. "Tell me why you haven't left us yet ."
Vegeta looked extremely insulted at this. Dr. Briefs steeled his nerve to nod in order to signal Vegeta to explain himself.
"I consider myself to be the Prince of Saiyans, old man. And my planet and my people may have been destroyed but I will not let anyone question or insult my honour. That includes staying with your daughter, no matter how annoying she maybe with all the screeching and temper, and help her raise our son to be strong and worthy." He paused to glare at his father in law, as if to challenge him.
"She's not that annoying, you know," Dr. Briefs commented, smiling cheekily. Vegeta harrumphed. "She cares for everyone…in her own way." A dark chuckle escaped from Vegeta's throat.
"Fat lot of good you are, old man." Vegeta said before walking down the corridor towards Bulma's lab. Dr. Briefs allowed himself a small smile.
