"Five more minutes Astoria," Draco groans into the pillow as she gently shakes him awake. His eyes are shut, but he can practically see her rolling her eyes. Several minute later, she shakes him again. "Not yet Astoria." A piece of paper suddenly appears before him. It reads: Draco Malfoy, I have been up for an hour now. If you don't get out of bed in a minute or less, I will start opening presents without you.
He looks up at her. "You wouldn't." Her smirk looks like the sneer he used to wear so often, a far cry from the angelic smile one would expect from someone like her. Oh, her smiles usually are sincere and as sweet as candy, but only he has ever seen her smirk. "Fine." He surrenders. "But in the future, there are much more pleasant ways you can wake me up, you know."
Naughty, she signs.
"And you love every minute of it." He sneers. She giggles in response, before jumping out of bed, throwing on a dressing gown, and darting out of the room.
"Get back here!" He shouts and runs after her, laughing all the way. When he reaches her she is sitting under the Christmas tree, waiting for him. Her back is turned to him, and he seizes this opportunity to tackle her to the ground and tickle her.
"Sign, "I have the best husband in the world", and I might let you go," He teases. She signs something and he lets her go. Suddenly, she giggles. He sighs. "All right, what did you actually sign?"
She takes her pen and parchment from the pocket of her dressing gown, and writes: Cake is delicious.
He shakes his head. "Unbelievable." He grins. "Let's open the presents."
He finds that she's given him two new alchemical manuscripts to study, a new Quidditch kit, and the newest Firebolt model. "So that's why you asked me for so much money," he exclaims as his hands trace the broom. "Thank you love, it's fantastic!" She beams and he pinches her cheek before she begins opening her gifts: The complete edition poems by her favorite poet, new dress robes, a diamond choker, a book and some manuscripts on Alchemy to help her advance in her career, and a red silk negligee.
"Why don't you try that on now," Draco suggests. "So I know if I need to take it back or not."
Later, she mouths.
"Fine, but that's a promise."
She simply kisses him and signs her thanks.
They have sugary scones and hot chocolate topped with whipped cream and cinnamon for breakfast. An owl wraps at the dining room window, bringing a letter from Daphne and Pansy with it, saying they're enjoying their vacation in Malta. Astoria smiles as she reads it, before resuming eating. He watches her as she sips and chews, and can't help but think of how lucky he is, in spite of everything. "Happy Christmas Astoria." And it is.
