Disclaimer: Anything Final Fantasy related belongs to Squaresoft. I own my original characters. The song in the prologue is a slightly changed version of an Elvis Presley song, so I don't own that either.
A/N: The title will probably change at some point in the future since this one is only a working title.
Prologue As the snow fliesOn a cold and grey winter morning
A poor little baby child is born
In the Midgar slums
And his mother cries,
Because if there is one thing she don't need
It's another hungry mouth to feedIn the Midgar slums.
Ah, Shinra why can't you understand?
A child needs your helping hand.
He's going to be an angry young man some day
Are you too blind to see?
You simply turn your heads
And look the other way.
The years go by and a little boy with a runny nose
Plays in the street while the cold wind blows
In the Midgar slums.
And his hunger burns…
So he starts to roam the streets at night
And he learns how to steal and he learns how to fight
In the Midgar slums.
Twenty-five years before the events in the game, a baby boy was born to a young couple living in the Midgar Slums. President Shinra was in charge of Midgar, Vincent Valentine and Tseng were the well-known Turks and Sephiroth…was a war hero. For them, life was prefect. But for the people in the slums, every day was a battle to survive.
Three more children, all of them boys, were born to the couple in the next few years. Warren had been the first-born, Benny came next, Billee after and lastly Duke. None of the four looked anything like their parents, with their pale skin, jet-black hair and green eyes. Their parents did everything possible to attempt to keep a roof over their heads and, although they had little money to spare, the four boys were never short of love.
To the amazement of everyone, the children drew the attention of Professor Hojo, who obtained their parents permission to perform some simple experiments on them. He found the results to be amazing, quite unlike anything he had ever found before. The children were part human and part…something else, although he couldn't quite be sure what.
When Shinra found out about the results, they instantly realised that the children, if trained to fight while young, could be very useful to them in adulthood. So they hired special warriors to train the children in all things.
As the years past, the four boys grew up to be strong and wise. When their training ended, each one chose a different path through life. One worked for Shinra and went on to become a Turk. One became a thief, his name well known on the streets of Midgar. One became a mercenary and one became…completely and utterly evil.
This is the story of four young men and their path through adulthood as they come to terms with being different from everyone else as well as learning who they really are. Let the story begin…
