Camping with Uncle

Today was the day Kili had been waiting to come for ages, the day they had been planning for weeks. Today he was going camping, just him and uncle Thorin.

Thorin had been busy at the forge lately but had promised Kili he would take him camping. Fili had already camped with Thorin but at the time Kili had been far too young. Now at the age of 9 (in human years), Kili could do things like go camping and train with Fili and Mister Dwalin.

Fili was looking forward to spending a whole night alone in their little home. Thorin asked him to come along but Fili told him that he would rather stay here and maybe get a full night's sleep without his little brother waking him up every five minutes in the dead of night.

Thorin laughed at his heirs comment. "I'll have the lad so tired he won't even make it to the bed roll." He replied.

" whatever you think" said Fili, a smirk on his face.

As soon as Thorin arrived home from the forge Kili rushed towards him. "COME ON UNCLE COME ON!" Kili shouted.

"Now hold on lad" Thorin chuckled. "At least let me grab my sword and a few other things before you go pushing me out the door." He said fondly.

"I'm sorry uncle I just can't wait." Kili said happily.

An hour later Thorin and Kili were walking through the forest, Thorin not saying much as he watched Kili with a fond smile. Oh how proud Dis would be of her boys he thought sadly.

Dis had died when Kili was only 2 leaving him lost with looking after the two little Dwarfing's. Thorin was suddenly brought from his thoughts as Kili called his name.

"Uncle how much longer till we make camp?" Kili asked curiously.

Thorin looked up to the darkening sky. "We will make camp here." He answered.

"What can I do Uncle?" Kili said with so excitement.

"Well you can set out our bed rolls, how does that sound?" Thorin asked.

"Yes sir." Kili said trying to sound much older than he was. Thorin shook his head and set himself to starting a fire.

Thorin had just fallen asleep when he was suddenly awakened by a worried Kili.

"Uncle?" Kili asked.

Thorin sighed and rolled over to face his nephew. "Yes Kili." He replied with a yawn.

"You don't think the Wargs will get us do you?" Kili asked in fear.

"No, the Wargs are not going to get us" Thorin answered reassuringly.

"Oh…ok, night uncle." Kili said with a yawn.

"Goodnight Kili." Thorin replied, also with a yawn.

A few minutes later Thorin was woken yet again.

"Uncle?"

Thorin groaned in annoyance. "Yes Kili"

"What about Orcs or stone Giants or…Elves" The young dwarf questioned.

Thorin almost laughed at his youngest nephews concern on encountering Elves. "No lad, Orcs or stone Giants or mean nasty Elves aren't going to get us."

No reply. Everything was silent so Thorin naturally assumed Kili had fallen asleep. Thorin sighed in content and closed his eyes, he was almost asleep when "Uncle? Can I sleep by you?" Kili asked softly.

Thorins heart melted. Thorin opened his arms and Kili crawled in his warm embrace and soon fell fast asleep. Thorin decided to stay awake just a little bit longer, running his fingers through Kili's dark hair.

"No my little raven, I will never let Wargs or orcs or giants or even elves lay a finger on you or your brother."

The end
