She was envious of her. Now that she thought about it, she was envious of him as well. They were alive, married, and their beautiful baby boy was living and healthy. They had their family, while she was left with nothing.
"His name is..."
She nearly broke down at the sound of the name. Now her envy turned to angry. How dare they haunt her with that name! She breathed in and out, while the angry showed only through in the fire of her eyes.
"I know my Father would be proud."
"And I know our son will bear the name proudly."
How could they talk about him so calmly? Her angry turned to anxiety. He wasn't coming back. He was gone. The baby was being named after him because he was gone.
"Pip, are you okay?" A still pause went through the room as she bit her tongue back. "Sorry, that's a stupid question. Do you want to hold him?" Another pause as she turned to look at the child. "Here little guy, see your Aunty Chi."
The hybrid baby was placed in her arms; he looked up at her curiously. The blaring blue eyes stared into her. Her anxiety turned to wonder as she let a little hand wrap about her finger. She watched his little mouth formed to make a small "o" as he yawned contently.
"He is beautiful," she spoke for the first time that arn.
"Yes, just like his mother."
His wife just shrugged off his compliment and took the baby from her arms. Her emotion turned back to envy.
