"Jane, stop! It's annoying!"
I chuckled to myself softly, and watched Demetri try to calm himself down. It was a game I liked to play, but the others found it quite irritating. Whenever the day would get slow, I would throw people brief looks of pain. It wasn't anything brutal, just enough make them twitch, and lose their concentration.
I tried to stop my game, but seeing Demetri irritated was rather funny. So, I did it again.
"Oh my god! Jane, what are you doing? Can't you see that I'm trying to work? Your quote on quote game isn't funny! Aro!" I knew that Demetri wouldn't do anything to hurt me because he knew that he would lose. His only defense was to call Aro.
"What, Demetri? What is wrong now?" Aro asked in an annoyed tone.
"It's Jane and her stupid game she likes to play! It is driving me crazy, and restricting me from getting my work done!"
"Oh please, Demetri. What work is there to get done? We run an office supply company in Volterra. How many people actually call us and order supplies?" I said in an impatient tone.
"Well, vampires use our business! They don't go to Staples!"
"What vampire runs an office? Do you know, Demetri?"
"Many of them have daytime jobs! Did you forget about blending in?"
"Of course I haven't! So, the vampires who live in rainy places, and have a human reputation order from here."
"That is right! I just got a call from the Cullens, but it was interrupted when you decided to start your game!"
"Shut up, Demetri!"
"Enough! Look, Jane stop playing your game. We do have some customers, and some are humans. Jane, instead of torturing people when you're here, maybe you should do some work." Aro said in a now patient and somewhat understanding tone.
I walked away without paying attention to Demetri's smirk. My desk was next to Alec's, and we often talked when there was nothing else to do.
"I told you that you would get caught, Janie."
"Well, Alec, excuse me for trying to have some fun."
"Isn't it somewhat strange that your idea of fun is hurting people?"
"No!"
"Well, never mind then."
I turned my head away from Alec, and waited for the phone to ring. I hated that Aro made our lives this way.
