I winced my eyes open slowly, only to shut them again. I was hovering of the school.
"Please," I gasped through fearful tears, "Ebony stop." She held me buy my right arm over the edge of the building, standing over me. I used all the strength I could muster to pull myself up before she pulled my arm out of my socket.
"You think you can hold me back? You think you can hold back death?" She called into the red sunset sky.
"Ebony-" I tried again.
"Stop calling me that!" she screamed, jerking me forward. She was not possessed. This was who she really was. Ebony was X.A.N.A
I clutched my cardigan in shock of this revelation.
"Hello? Aelita?" the small, cellular voice called.
My phone! My phone had gone off!
"THE ROOF," I shouted. "Go to the roof!" I tried to lift the cell phone out of my pocket, only to watch it crash to the ground. I froze once more looking down at how far I would fall.
I could overpower her. Just like all the times I had done in Lyoko, I could do this. But now I didn't have a tower to hide in. Now I didn't have Jeremy to take me back to the past. I'll I had was...me. What was I really worth without my power in Lyoko? When X.A.N.A. was destroyed...where would I go? What would I be worth then? Who would love me then?
And just then, in the doorway of the stairwell that led to the roof, was Odd.
Odd would love me then.
Perfect.
"Ebony?" he said in disbelief. "What are you doing?"
"Stay out of my way," she shouted, barely looking over her shoulder. "Is this what you want?" She called again, jerking me as sweat began drip from trying to support my weight, the same twisted red glow in her eye.
"What?" he said, not moving.
"ODD," I shouted. "IT'S X.A.N.A!"
He froze, trying to understand what was happening.
"TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT!" she shouted over my screams. "DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND? She is a part of me. She is my clay blood. Aelita "Hopper" or "Stone", either way she is evil as I. Wait, just wait. It's not worth it. Give her to me. Let me have her memory."
I stopped crying and screaming and sweating; and realized what I was supposed to be. I was astonished. I stared down, preparing to be left to face the cold hard cement.
In a split second, my arm was released. Not on Ebony's intentions though.
In a split second, Odd had socked her to the ground and she disolved into thin air, and before I knew it Odd snatched me by my waste back up into the life that I almost lost.
I lay one the roof in relief that I was no longer hanging by my arm. I leaned back into his arms. His eyes were cold...sad.
"What's wrong?" I asked with a small smile.
"I hit a girl," he said, almost kidding.
I lightly laughed. "Odd that wasn't a girl, that was X.A.N.A."
"Who says X.A.N.A.'s not a girl?" he laughed back. I closed my eyes, never wanting to be bathed in moonlight with anyone else in the world.
