It was always nice to sit down with your thoughts once in a while.
By yourself, that is, with nobody else in your head but you.
Which, he had to admit, was hard when Edward was around...
And considering how beautiful Nessie had grown up to be, Jake found that he was spending more and more time out of doors.
It had been a long, long time, of years filled with happiness and laughter and the promise of forever.
But it was finally time to spice up the everlasting same-ness with a bit of...difference.
He knew that the moment he asked, the world would turn upside down, and Bella would probably be after his throat again.
And he realized that Edward would simmer quietly, waiting for his chance to throw him into the darkest pits of hell.
And that Rose wouldn't be as tolerant as she was of him any longer the moment those ill-fated words met her ears.
Unfortunately, he had to do it.
What was surprising, though, was the one person who stood with him.
He never expected Esme, vampire mother hen, to be the most supportive of his relationship with Nessie.
And he never quite expected to like her so much either.
Maybe it was because she acted like the mother he barely remembered.
Maybe it was because she always looked at him with those soft eyes that promised she wouldn't judge him.
Maybe it was because somehow, in an odd, twisted way, she loved him just as much as she did her own children.
But for some reason, he always found himself coming back to the house, just to sit with her on the porch steps and laugh, until Nessie came worming her way into his lap and occupied his entire attention.
It was odd, to be sure, but in his own way, he sort of...loved her too.
Rose said that it was nothing but pity, but then again, Rose was an idiot of a blonde, so Jake never took much stock in her words.
But that time, her words had rankled.
They had actually cut.
They had hurt.
And it wasn't until Edward had wrestled the thought out of his head and told Esme, that Jake had finally gotten the guts to talk to her about it.
Vampires can't cry.
But for those few moments, for those few precious moments, Jake thought he saw tears in her eyes.
She had hugged him and for once, Jake didn't mind the sharp, too sweet smell.
He hugged her back and wished for a single moment that his own mom was there, to give him a hug like the one that she gave.
But the moment passed, and she looked at him again, holding his face in her hands with the sweetest smile.
And she gave him the briefest kiss on the head, looked back once, and waved.
So at least Jake had one member of the family convinced.
At least, anyway.
So it was probably time to work up that long-buried courage and descend once again into the depths of war.
Because after he asked Nessie to marry him....oh, a war was definitely on.
Lol. I was rereading Breaking Dawn again, and I just randomly thought of this. :] Yeahhh, it's odd, haha, but whatevvvvvvv.
