Genre: Angst/Romance
Rating: PG
Warnings: Shonen-ai.
Disclaimer: I don't own Kingdom Hearts 2. Well, I own the game, but I don't own it, if you know what I mean.

Notes: I don't have a livejournal account, but I have this habit of going around and printing out fanfiction prompts from LJ communities to help me when I need inspiration. This fic was inspired by the community xyamountofwords, and the prompt Set Three: Dialogue, 24. "Love isn't that easy." I'm not a member of this community, and I didn't officially claim this pairing or anything like that, so if anyone has a problem with that, let me know. I might do the rest of Set Three, I might not. It all depends on inspiration.

"What do you want?" Roxas snapped, turning around to face his friend.

"You're not really going to leave the Organization?" Axel wanted to know.

"The Keyblade chose me. I need to find out why," the blonde replied.

Axel deflated visibly, eyes on the ground. "But if you leave, I'll—" he began sadly then stopped himself. "Roxas, we're best friends." Each sentence was punctuated by a pointing hand gesture, as was the redhead's habit. "I like you. In fact, I care more about you than anyone else in the Organization. More than anyone I've ever met. So I don't see why you can't… why we can't…" He paused mid-gesture, hands spread palm-out in front of him. He'd run out of words for the things he wanted to describe.

"You don't see what, Axel?" Roxas demanded.

"I care about you, you care about me. I don't see why we can't well, you know." The redhead paused again, his face showing both discomfort and hope at the word he was about to speak. "Love."

"Do you really think love's that easy?" the younger blonde demanded angrily. "Just say a couple magic words? Well, I think you're forgetting something. We don't have hearts, so there's no such thing as love. Only lust."

Axel's eyes were downcast, his expression matching the gloominess of the dark city around him. "You're right, of course. We're Nobodies. We can't love any more than we can feel the pulses in our throats. We hardly even exist." Then he added, almost as an afterthought, "Without a heart, it's not like it would mean anything, anyway.

"Roxas, do what you need to do. And, I'm there for you. Commit it to memory."
