"Find anything?"

Wounded Bird didn't look up from the tracks. "The moles headed this way. One of their birds went lame a ways back. They're riding heavy on the other two."

"Good then," Rango puffed out his chest, still unable to resist a performance, "We'll catch'em quick and be back home before nightfall."

His unofficial deputy, Wounded Bird had refused to be sworn into office, mounted and the two headed down the trail. "I still think we should have brought the others."

"Nonsense. The Hill Clan aren't any trouble, just mischief makers. We can handle this ourselves."

"I wasn't thinking of them."

Rango took a quick look around, they had left Dirt territory behind them and to tell the truth, the thought of it was making him a bit more nervous than normal. The feeling of unease stayed with the two as they made camp for the night, but it wasn't until the following day on the trail when they found themselves caught by Rattlesnake Jake that Rango regretted his overconfidence.

"You know, I think that a posse may not have been such a bad idea."

A rattling chuckle from Jake as he circled around the two. "Aw, come now Sherrif. You know I'd eat them up just as quick as you."

"Easy now Jake, we're not here for no trouble. Just tracking a few thieves is all."

Jake's tounge flickered out, scenting the air. "I can taste your fear lizard, perhaps a drink would help you relax?"

"Well I thank you for the offer, but I'm afraid we must be on our merry way. Don't want to let the trail get cold after all. You understand I'm sure?"

"I do at that. I'm after my own prey anyhow, so I can't spare you the time I'd want to." Jake uncoiled himself and slid off into the desert with a quiet, "Farewell, 'brother'."

The two lawmen waited until the rattlesnake was out of sight before moving. Wounded Bird spoke up, "You want to head back?"

Rango took a deep breath and couldn't help but smile, "No, no. He's not gonna bother us this time. That was just his way of…saying hello."

I really liked this movie, Jake being my favorite character. I like the idea of them being respected rivals down the road. Not enemies, but not friends either. Especially for Jake as he went from wanting to eat Rango to allying with him against their mutual enemy…That and I just love westerns.
