"I volunteer!" The shouts of every twelve to eighteen-year old girl around me drown out my voice. "Come on Glimmer, you've been practicing this for six years. This is your chance." I prepare to scream at the top of my voice, "I VOLUNTEER!" The escort of my district, Ashleen Renfewshire, looks me in the eye. She nods to me twice, and smiling, I nod back. This is the sign that I've been chosen.
I walk up to the stage, gleaming. She taps the microphone making everyone go silent. "Our female tribute of District 1 for the 74th annual Hunger Games, Glimmer Rambin!" I smile towards the audience as they start to applaud. I was always one of the most popular, pretty girls in my class. Everyone knew me and would be glad to see me win the Hunger Games.
Ashleen heads over to the male reaping bowl as excitement that I've never felt before builds up inside of me, like a tsunami about to destroy anything in its path. I feel like I can do anything. "I did it. I won the battle. I will finally bring glory to my district, my friends, my family. I am the tribute for the 74th Hunger Games." The sight of a boy approaching the stage brings me back to reality. It is Marvel.
Marvel Quaid was one the best people to know. He was always so helpful and could make you smile even when you had the worst day. He was unstoppable. When we were little, we would both dream about winning the Hunger Games, coming back home with the gift of glory and love. Our district would be showered with gifts and food. We both had the same goal, to win.
"And our male tribute of District 1, Marvel Quaid!" Everyone claps for Marvel just as they did for me. They knew that we would be an amazing pair. Marvel smiles and gives me a small wave of excitement. I jubilantly smile back. Ashleen tell us to shake hands and says, "And may the odds, be ever in your favor!" We cross the stage toward each other and shake hands, smiling even more as the Panem national anthem begins to play.
I can barely even imagine what the next month will bring us.
This is NOT the end of the chapter; there will be more to come later! :) Hope you liked it and please review! I want to make this story better! - Anna
